I am consider getting a new camera but I was looking for advice. I was at wally world and I noticed they were selling these. My walmart has them in stock locally but heres a link to the one I was talking about.

My goals are to take good closeups(macros?) of my coral. Polyp extension, hey what is that bug pics and the like. 95% of all the pics I take go on Photobucket and they compress them anyway. So I am guessing the fact that it is a 5MP camera isn't going to hurt vs a higher MP rating. I have a crappy camera, Aiptek and I was hoping I could find a good mid level camera to suit my needs with out spending $800.

Any photo gurus want to tell me if this is any good?

I read a review and it had a lot of very favorable things to say for this camera, plus it's relatively low priced. The review did state that there were some issues but you can't have everything and that low price compromises are to be expected. Take a look at this webpage.

Nice site. The camera sounds pretty good too. Like you said you can't get everything for the money.

Its hard especially for a photo novice to know what is really important when it comes to taking reef photo vs. b-day party pics.

This can't be this easy. Someone tell me why this camera sucks and any possible options in the price class.

Again I am mainy upgrading to take Macro shots. I ended up liking the Kodaks color redering from what I saw on dpreview.com.

If anyone has any suggestions speak up.

Okay. I have a Kodak Z740 which is just under that one. Instead of 5.1 Mp it's 5.0 Mp. I've taken about 2000 pics with it and am extremely satisfied. It doesn't have an actual Macros setting but it does have a setting for photographs 28 inches or less. It's a closeup program. I've posted some pics on Captivereefing.com and would like you to check them out. I know several other people with the Z740 and they are all extremely satisfied with it also. It is a cheaper camera also. Right now there are several deals going on that you can also purchase it with a memory card and the EasyShare Printer. It only prints 4x6 prints but thats better than no printer at all.

Here's the link to the thread at Captivereefing.com.

Thank I was looking for reefkeeping pics. Do you have any pics anywhere that are close up macro style. The kinda "are these redbugs" closeup pictures?

The 850 has a macro mode but dpreview stated "Macro mode nothing special" so maybe I am barking up the wrong tree.

Welcome to RC by the way!

I don't. Like I said I've only played with the closeup setting on my camera. I haven't taken any really close pics with it in my tank becuase I don't have any corals or other things in the tank. I'm in the process of cleaning my tank as I had an Incompitent care taker and he just about killed my tank. Over feeding. Anyway. If I do get some good really closeups I'll try posting them on Captivereefing.com. The only reason I'm posting on there is it's easier. Did you go look at the pics there?
