Kodiak island is a very remote and hard to get to place in Alaska, just ask the folks that live there.

Had a customer inquire about getting some live rock delivered there. He said the only option was fedex express overnight delivery, and was prepared to pay the costs of fedex.

I checked with fed ex, it would cost about $750.00 just for the freight to get it there.....a bit pricey for 30 pounds of live rock.

However, Alaska airlines has expanded their freight service to the most remote and hard to get to areas of Alaska. I got in contact with them and was gobsmacked at what transpired.

Rock left Tampa at 6:30 pm....went to Seattle, transferred the next morning to a flight to Kodiak island, and was on Kodiak later that same day.

Customer reported rock was in perfect condition, water was pristine and temperature was fine.

Truly one of the most amazing transit stories to one of the most remote and hardest place to ship to in the world.....and the kicker????

Total cost for the freight was $68.79

A far cry from the fed ex charge.....kudos to Alaska Air!!

You can get there from here!!! LOL

Sounds like fedex may be a cheaper option than standard air freight

I misunderstood the post! Stinks that Alaska airlines costs that much less than freight to Texas. At only a fraction the distance

Not really....was 60 pounds total weight....southwest to Texas is about the same charge...all depends on the weight of the shipment...
