Kole Tang...My first DD purchase.

Our Kole has been in the DT for over a month, and nibbles on Rod's when I feed the tank, doesn't seem so interested in nori, but forages on the sand constantly, and the rocks\glass. He has no ich spots, no visible issues, has nice size to him and looks good. Kind of freaked me out for the first few weeks that he wasn't eating but he looks great and acts normal.

I love Koles.. might not be the most expensive, hard to find fish, but such a great personality and they are functional!!

I made a run to lowes and picked up a new one. I got one of two covers done, but I really hate it. I have not run a cover on this tank in 3 years and really enjoy being able to look down into the water and having easy access to the tank. I may just have to accept that the Wrasse will most likely jump and limit my fish to non known jumpers.

I'm right with ya. I ran an open top 30g cube for years. Just loved it.

Not sure what the clear mesh looks like, but I got white egg crate and it took a few days, but I got used to it. I can still see my water right through it , so for me it was a decent compromise.

Although I hear it can obstruct light a bit.

The Kole was white as a ghost again this morning. It is very strange. I did some reading and I guess this is not that uncommon and is how some camouflage at night. From what I gathered some tangs do it more than others.

Very scary to see.

did you ever notice this while you had him in qt? i wonder, since he is now with other fish, if he does this if he feels threatened. since he was alone in qt, it would make sense you never saw it, if that is the case. not that anything is necessarily bothering him but, mother nature showin' her face, ya know?

i have seen mine a little paler first thing in the morning but never to the extreme you describe. it'll be interesting to compare when i get him in the dt!

Nope. I never saw it in QT. It also never happened when the Wrasse was on his vacation in the overflow. His color returns to normal throughout the day. He is back to pretty much normal right now...about 6 hours into the light cycle. I will be interested to see if he does it again tonight.

i used to send my first husband on vacations in the overflow. i finally just divorced him. hope your wrasse behaves better than he did. ;)

oh WOW!! he looks great and so does your tank!

i have a pet cam i can watch from work. all i ever see my dogs doing is sleeping. hmmm, maybe i'll relocate it so i can watch my tank instead. much more interesting!

Thanks Nina! I love my tank camera. Money well spent.

Very nice! I love how your Tailspot Blenny eats from the clip. Mine hasn't figured it out yet.

Haha...it is really funny to watch. He will hide in that Birdsnest by the clip, wait for the Kole to be on the other side of the tank, sneak a couple bites from the clip, and then I think he watches for the Kole in the glass's reflection because he always seems to retreat when the Kole cruises back that way. The Kole will chase him, but he is just too fast through all the rock work. It is like a Tom and Jerry in there.

Mine only has to contend with a foxface, but my Tailspot spends most of his time hassling my Royal Gramma. Go figure.

No more jumping Carpenter's...

that looks NICE!!!

i was almost afraid to scroll down...thought i might see a crispy carpenters on the carpet!

except for the tiny wart on the bottom of his tail fin which i believe now is lympho, he is looking PERFECT!! eating great, always begging, very friendly!

tuesday will be my LAST TT **happy dance** and then he will be in qt for 4 weeks of observation. i'm throwing a big honkin' kole tang party the day he goes into my dt!!

this is so funny...people don't believe me when i tell them my fish know me and are leery of strange faces. my son came out to the farm today. the tank the tang is in sits right on my kitchen counter. john wanted to know what i had in there and walked over to take a look. the tang zoomed into his pvc and would not come out, even for food. after john left, that silly fish swam out in the open the rest of the day. my royal gramma is the same way. any time somebody other than me goes to look in the tank, he disappears into the rocks.

how's your guy doing? any more "white outs"?

Wow, that has been long road in QT for him. I know it will be worth it when you can get him in your DT healthy and worry free. I have had mine just short of 5 weeks, so hopefully I am out of the woods as far as disease and won't be getting any surprises.

That's too funny about your son. Now that you mention it my fish definitely have a different reaction when I walk up to my tank than others. They all gather in the area I feed from...little piglets.

No more white outs since the last one. I can't quite figure out what causes it. Last time it was right after a water change, so I am interested to see if he does it again when I change the water tomorrow. Other than that, he is still doing really well. He still has a little discoloration where the HLLE was. It may be scarring, so hopefully that goes away. Honestly I do not think anyone but me and perhaps other fish keepers with a VERY critical eye would ever notice. The tank is getting Nori everyday and when I take the clip out to reload it in the morning he sits there and waits for it. He has completely taken to PE mysis, hikari mysis, and spirulina brine now also. He attacks the end of the turkey baster like yours does the syringe.

He can be a bit of a bully, but all chasing no nipping. I have not seen any fin damage or bite marks on anyone. He definitely has brought a lot of action to the tank. He was a great last addition to the tank and was really the missing piece.

yes, it's been quite a long road for this guy and my patience is being tested like never before but i'm determined to stick with the regimen. i am hoping for the same success you are having once he goes into my dt! don't know if you are following kendrid's thread in the disease forum but her tang is showing signs of disease. really sucks because she used TT. seeing that is the main reason i am doing the full 4 weeks of qt after this last transfer.

mine isn't going after the nori much but he's eating formula 2 like it's going out of style! he also gets mysis and occasionally brine shrimp. he'll be a happy camper once he has lots of rock work to pick at! i may put a piece of live rock in with him once he gets to final qt.

glad to know your guy is thriving!!

last transfer DONE!! :bounce1: now we begin 4 weeks of observation and barring any signs of disease, into my dt he will go!

squeeee!!!!!

Congrats on the successful TTs Nina. Now just the waiting game.

No fade in color after the water change last night. I have no idea what caused it the two times it happened. His color is looking as good as ever. His tail fin and pectoral fins actually look almost metallic.
