Kole tang not eating seaweed.

Hello,
I got a new kole tang and he is not eating seaweed from a clip so I placed some between two LR's and kept the piece on the clip as well.
He appears happy and is swimming and picking at the glass.
Any clue how long until he figures out the seaweed is food?
Other possible tips?

Try seaweed pellets instead. Otherwise you can shred nori sheets to smaller pieces and just thrown them in like frozen food. He will get it that way faster, at least my purple tang did. When I got a Kole I was already feeding seaweed pellets and the Kole tang caught on quickly.

Of all the tangs I've ever had, the bristletooth genus are the most likely to not eat nori. I currently have a chevron, the only tang amongst nine to ignore the clip. Very important, therefore, to have live rock to graze.

I will try some of the pellets tomorrow and see if he catches on...however, I would prefer if the tang ate seaweed.

Try frozen foods also Mysis etc. Be happy if he is eating for you and healthy.
Certain fish have different tastes just like people.
I had an old Naso tang that didn't eat shrimp, my current one prefers shrimp over nori so go figure
Your tank may eat certain foods for a while and later figure out nori is good. Give him time.

Agreed with the Ctenochaetus tangs... they don't really care for it that much.

Might catch my Chevron from time to time nipping at it... it's more common to see him in some un-natural position picking at the rocks, powerheads, cords, overflow, sand, etc...

Koles eat micro algae. They are the best at cleaning rocks and your glass.

I true feeding a mixture of pellets today, but he did not go for any.
I did catch him picking at some seaweed that I placed between the two LR's and from the water collum, but still nothing from the clip.
I might have to try some brine, but did not want to have to feed that every other day.

I almost exclusively feed my fishes pellets. But when it comes to wild caught fish, from clowns to tangs, they might require brine shrimp initially. They catch on quickly, usually within 2-7 days, that other stuff falling from above is food too. Remember, your tang was just minding its own business in the reefs of Hawaii then someone came and caught it. Now there's no endless supply of food and it needs to learn.

Try finding you a piece of Tonga branch and tie some Nori around that and put it on the sandbed and see how that works. It worked for me when fish first got introduced into the tank.

mine never caught on to the nori on a clip thing. he does eat it diced in my homemade frozen though.

None of my bristle tooth tangs have ever gone after nori. They will eat the Formula 2 flakes, mysis, and spirulina brine shrimp though.
