Kole tang or tomini tang for algea

Does a tomini tang do as good of a job as a mole for algea control? I was wanting a smaller one since it's going into a 120 gallon just wasn't sure. Thanks.

I've never had a kole so I cannot really compare, but my Tomini is the hardest working member of my tank, cuc or otherwise. He is constantly hunting and picking at rock work and overflows. I love this fish!

I have had both over the years. Both in my experience did great work pecking at the rocks for algae. However, as far as temperament is concerned, I tried a Kole tang on two separate occasions and both of them were real mean, but that could have been just luck of the draw with my individual animals. My Tomini was a model citizen and was one of my favorite fish for several years. I rehomed him when I moved cross country this past summer and wish he still was with me.

agreed with the above, if your going to go with one go tomini, they seem to have a more mild personality. I have one of each and unfortunately had the kole first and it took about a week+ of chasing and tail whipping before they calmed down, luckily no cuts or dmg during the adjustment period. Both tangs seem to be just as good at algae grazing as each other, tomini might pick a bit more.

Also My Kole used to be mean to my lawnmower blenny, probably due to them both being algae scavengers, Blenny still steers clear of him.

I've had several Kole tangs, and currently I have both a Kole and a Tomini in my 180. I find them to both be very hard workers, constantly picking at the glass and rocks. As others have said, the Tomini is much more mild mannered. If I was picking one for a 120, I'd definitely choose the Tomini.

Don't be mistaken the Tomini can be just as mean. I guess it's something with Lawnmower Blennies that those Tangs don't like. I had the Tomini first and it was mean to my Lawnmower and I got rid of the Tomini and decided to try the Kole. Same result and got rid of him and decide to try a Chocolate Tang, so far so good (knock on wood). I would possibly recommend a One-Spot Foxface over both of them.
