Kole Tang with an established Yellow Tang?

Has anybody ever added a Kole Tang to their tanks with an already established Yellow Tang?

The reason I've asking is: A couple of months ago my Foxface died. Both the Foxface and the Yellow Tang used to rush the algae click whenever I would put it in. But since the Foxface has passed, the Yellow Tang doesn't seam anywhere near as interested in the algae. He pecks at it, then swims away, comes back and pecks and swims away. My chromis and clowns are more interested in it the the Tang.

I'm trying to decide if I should add another fish that could buddy around with him. I didn't want to get another Foxface and with my size tank I proably shouldn't get anything bigger than a Kole. Unless there's another Tang or fish that might be better. But I don't want a Purple, Scopas or similar.

I just don't want to add a Kole and have him kick the crap out of it. My Yellow is about 4" and I've had him for over 2 years. Any experiences with these two together would be helpful.

I put a kole in with an established purple and they were immediately fine...that was in a 375 and I added a blonde naso and convict tang as well. You can us the mirror trick...I did that for half a day. Just added a chevron last night.

Would they be going in a 90, could be a little tight.

They will likely take awhile to become buddies. Established yellows in anything but large tanks can be aggressive.

Yes they would be going in the 90, that's why I figured the Kole was about the only other tang that would be good. I don't think my Yellow is as aggressive as some I read about. It rarely has ever bothered any fish I've added.

He may get nasty with another tang on the block. I had 3 tangs in my 72. A sailfin first, super mellow. He got really nasty when I added a purple for about 3 days. Now, they are inseparable. I call them dumb and dumber. When I added a kole tang, they ganged up on him, again for about 3 days or so, then they just left him alone.

I think you'll be fine. Koles aren't much to look at color-wise, but they are machine's at rock picking. I think they have alot of personality.

i just did this a month ago and it was fine. The kole tang now thinks they are best buds. The yellow tang just tries to avoid the company of the kole, not violent at all

To clarify my post above, I do think you can do it. I had a yellow and a kole in a 100, but this was about 10 years ago. I can't quite remember, but I think the yellow was a little aggressive at first. They got over the sibling rivalry and became best buddies. It was cool to see them swim together. They were almost inseperable.

Now, one thing noone mentions about kole tangs. They can be aggressive towards blennies. My kole would frequently chase my redlip blenny.

I love kole tangs. Them and yellows are my favorite tangs!! Best of luck. Go ahead and give it a try.

How about a yellow-fin (tomini) tang?

How about a yellow-fin (tomini) tang?

I have one with a yellow tang (tomini tang first). There was some squabbling at first, but it lasted maybe a day. Just another option. I think the tomini tang looks great with its yellow fins and white tail.

Kole Tangs can be aggressive towards blennies? I currently have a Midas Blennie, would thisbe a problem? Anybody keeping them together?
