Koralia Evolution running backwards?

I just cycled both of mine 20 times each this time. Only once did one go in reverse, the other one never did. I do not find this to be an issue when on a timer, well to me anyways. I just wish my 1400's produced more flow. I am taking them out tonight and putting my modded k4's back in as they produced wicked flow in comparison but at double the wattage.

I'd say 80% of the time mine ran backwards before it completely stopped working. the other one has never started backwards ever. Once out of 20 times might actually be a good thing for random flow.

I just took apart the backward pump, put it back together, and cycled it 20 times without it running backwards once. So I guess something must have just been keeping the anti-reverse mechanism from functioning right. Its now running in a different spot, not quite as critical, which should allow me to keep an eye on it. I'll keep everyone posted...

Got an e-mail from Hydor on the issue...

"The bushing has slipped. If you take out the impeller and look at the underside of the wing you will see a bushing. The bushing should be flush with the bottom of the wing. Push the bushing back up into the wing and your Koralia will run normally. "

I'm hoping this fixes my pump that no longer works too. Otherwise voyagers are in, evos are out.

i got the same email. what the heck is the bushing? guess anything related to bush cant be good.

Well, just tried the bushing trick, it worked like a charm. Cycled 20 times in a row without running backwards one time. just thought I'd share.

It'sthe "plate" that the impellor is attached to. It has a little notch it must sit in at the top. Take off the front cover, and pull out the propellor, you will see what I mean. HTH

here r the pics i got from hydor:

Great pics. NYCBOB. much easier to understand than my try at giving directions a few posts ago. By the way, still working good after "THE TRICK"

I'm glad someone got pics. The "fix" worked for my dead pump which was also the one that ran backwards. My evos make a pretty noticeable noise on start up however the Hydor rep on another board said they should not be noticeable over fans and pumps... might are noticeable over my surround sound at a normal level. The rep said this was due to the current flowing backwards? I know nothing about electric nor how to fix such a thing.

Can these bushings be glued in place to stop them from slipping again? Or maybe something not so permanent as glue. Maybe a dab of silicone on the backside?

No doubt!!! Why could they do this? what will hurt if I do it? Mine are 48 hours old and I have to look for a fix already!!!

I think silicone on the back would have the same effect as the bushing backing out. It wount let the prop move forwrda bit to hit the bumper... this would cause it to spin backwards just like the bushing backed out. Not proff of this but based on how they work that is my .02

What about a tiny amount of super glue? For the record I don't own any of the evolutions but I was looking into them. Is the bushing rubber and is it a wear item that needs to be replaced from time to time?

Well, I got up this morning and guess what, the pump was running backwards AGAIN!!!! I fixed the bushing AGAIN and went to work. Just got home from work and guess what, pump running backwards AGAIN. This is a big PITA. Hydor needs to come up with a fix and quick, or I'm just gonna go with Vortechs. I know they cost alot, but I won't have to put up with this crap. Very disappointing!!!!!!!
