Koralia Evolution running backwards?

I've had the new bushings installed for quite some time now but now both my 1050's are running backwards and I can't seem to figure out why. Running them on a Red Sea wavemaker. I've cleaned them thouroughly but still no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm convinced the cycle time is too short on the red sea wavemaster. Mine fatigues the plastic grill and eventually breaks the anti-reverse peg off, it has done it 3-4 times now. They keep sending me new the new front impeller grill/cage part, but now I'm switching to the aquarium systems Natural Wave timer so I can set the cycle to a longer duration. I haven't had any problem with the pumps I've been running on those once I installed new bushings (running about 8 months).

I've run both the 750s and the 1050s with the new bushings and ended up throwing them all in the trash. Tired of them starting backwards, and tired of them not even starting half the time. These things are junk...

Move to some real powerheads...Vortechs.

There are two causes of reversal in the Koralia Evolutions.

You could have the old version of the bushing from the first production of them. If this is the case, you simply request new bushings from Hydor USA and they will send them to you for FREE. You can see a photo of the old version verses the new version.

The other possibility is that the from cover is damaged. There is a black bumper in the front cover. If it is missing or damaged or if the plastic holding it in place is damged the pump can run backwards on start-up. This is also solved by contacting Hydor USA and asking for a replacement cover. This part is also FREE.

I've had 2 Evo 1400s for over a year. I do not use a wavemaker. They almost always start up in reverse (at least 90% of the time). I use a plunger from a test kit syringe to force it to spin correctly (stick it in through the front of the grate until the propeller strikes it and flips direction).

After reading this thread, I thought I'd just take it apart and reseat the bushing, and all would be well. However, when I took it apart, the bushing was already seated correctly in both pumps. I cleaned the algae off all parts and put them back together. When I turned them on, they both started up backwards still.

I've just contacted Hydor through their website to get the new bushing, but at this point I don't think that's the problem in mine. It seems like in mine, when it starts up in reverse, it's supposed to strike a peg on the back side of the grate, but that never happens.

I dont post on here much.... As i forgot I had an account. But after having these same problems with my 750 and 1050 I thought I'd throw my .02 in.
I tried the bushing things to also find that they were seated correctly... My problem, which was so easily overlooked(my own stupidity for jumping to conclusions that it was the bushing), the little rubber stops on the inside of the front grill had been dislodged and lost in my tank.
I solved the problem by going to the local hardware store and buying 1/4 inch thick faucet washers, trimmed them down to size, and super glued them in place of the missing bumpstops. This has only been going for a few hours but I have my koralias on a red sea wavemaker and I have not had a single reverse start since.
I am going to try and get some pics of what I am talking about just to clarify anything that needs to be clarified. BUT so far so good thankfully.

I bought 2 1050s when they first came out. I thought they were great till after a couple weeks use they would not restart. I would have to tap on them or mess with the cover to get them going again. Still the same problem. Work 2 weeks then have to clean them.

Well, there must be at least a third reason. I have replaced the old bushings with new bushings (Free) on my Evo 750, and the black bumper on the cover was not damaged but I replaced it (Free) anyway. Afterwards, it still ran in reverse. It now just occupies shelf space in my garage.

+1....I did the same thing...they are junk...worst I've ever used...

Mine started in reverse a few weeks after I got it, I turned it off and on and then it started properly. No problems since. Why does Koralia persist in selling these if they are defective?

No healthy fish will be sucked into a backwards running powerhead. The suction is almost nothing on the front side and they have a grate to prevent it. Even my modified k4's which blow the evo 1400's away flow wise could not suck any of my fish in running backwards & never came close do doing so. I could watch fish swim in front of them while they ran backwards *LOL*

I woke up and found my yellow tang stuck to the front of the powerhead that was running in reverse. It will grab a healthy fish if they get to close.

I actually just did a search about this because I have one 750 that runs backwards. I can take it out and clean it and make sure it is running correctly and then it starts running backwards again. I am getting so irritated. Mine is NOT set up on a wavemaker it is just plugged straight in. I don't think my tank is getting enough flow because of this. :/
