Koralia shredded BTA...... help?

Ok, I just put a BTA in my tank a couple of days ago. I thought he had found a place that he liked, but it seems that he came detatched from his rock overnight and floated around and got sucked into a Koralia. I was gone all night and day so this probably happened about 12-15 hours ago. I came home and when I saw what happened, I picked all the BTA pieces out of the tank that I could find. I checked ammonia with API kit and it came up 0. I changed out my filter sock, threw a bag of Chemipure in the new sock, and also have fresh carbon running in a phosban reactor. I am mixing new water for about a 22g change for my 75g tank. Anything else I can do? All my fish and coral look happy except the maroon clown who lost this new home....

Have I dodged a bullet or am I not out of the woods yet?

How does an anemone get sucked into a koralia--it draws the air from narrow fins around the side and forces it out the nose cone?

The water change and running carbon was a great thing to do:smokin: your tank should be fine.

pretty amazing what a nem will fit into...today while i was feeding mine with a pipette i managed to shoot the mysis at him and then managed to suck three or four tentacles into the pipette...

You shouldn't have open pumps with a Nem! Didn't you ever research your pet before you purchased it!!!!!????

to the defense of the original poster----
IMO a Koralia that is always on is not an open pump. I have had trouble with gobys climbing in them if they are on intervals but the slits on the sides are just to small for even a nem to fit through

just a reminder you dont have to suck the whole column and all into the pump to have a catastrophe...ripping off countless limbs is good enough to create a problem...and they will very very easily be drawn through the slits of a koralia, if one decides to move close enough to it...WC and carbon are very good ideas...keep a very close eye on the nem if it is still alive and check it for signs of melting...if something looks fishy, you can give him the sniff test...you will know then if it is a goner...so will your neighbours, and your inlaws two towns over...

there are covers your can buy or make to protect your nems from this...wrapping the PH's intake portion with a product like Enkmat will prevent them from getting sucked and chopped...they will still get stuck to the PH though...others have used products like needlepoint backers etc...
