Korallen-Zucht Pohl's Xtra

This is one of the best additives they make. The two things I could recommend are CV and extra, that's the best mix for color.

Yeah I'm just looking at the original the extra special is more money. I'm just trying to find out if this product is worth the money. With my tank it will cost me almost a dollar a day. So 4 365 dollars a year That's why I want to get the back from othER People using this product. Is it worth the money

I use Pohl's Xtra, Coral Vitalizer, and their Amino Acid and have great color along with polip extension for a great part of the day. Their products are expensive but this is an expensive hobby and I think they are worth it!

if its worth it or not ..... that's up to each reefer ... if you ask my father, he would say even the cownfish that costs 10 bucks isnt worth it ..... 10 bucks for less than a pound of fish ! lol

Xtra is a nice mix. seems to carry AA, trace elements, and some other elements. it colors up corals like Amino acids, givees them more life [vitality] and also gives color this 3d look [Only when nutritions are ultra low] potent additive, so watch out for browning or film growth.

Xtra special, is REALLY potent ! its good for tanks with REALLY pale corals, I guess its just Xtra concentrated or something ..... I like Xtra more for my reef.

lastly, if your corals are starving or just pale looking .... add Xtra along with some K balance [I add them to same cup and dose] it gives corals a good kick in terms of coloring.

HTH,

So with the xtra or xtra special I wouldn't need to dose AA or virtalizer?

if you are dosing Xtra, I wouldnt dose Amini acids the same day, it already contains it. I also wouldnt dose Sponge power the same day.

CV I usually dose on the days I do not dose Xtra, so I have something to add every night. I do not know if CV and Xtra dosing on the same day has any negative effects or not, but I personally rather space them out ....

only reason I say no AA and Xtra dosage on same day, is that most likely, we will be overdosing AAs as the result and get brown film algae .... in general, since I have started Xtra I havent dosed AA anymore, except occationally when I get home and I see my corals too pale, so add a couple drops before lights go out ... which happens rarely. [or if I remove too much po4, or if I increase flow of Zeliths too much, ]

Great info. I have also been told I wouldn't need the bac food with the AA dosing so this would cut back on costs for me.

I have been using phols xtra for a few weeks now and it has helped my mari colonies color up very well. I notice a brown film develop on the sand if I dose it with CV so now I dose CV on the days I dose sponge power and the film has diminished. This stuff is potent no doubt so go easy.

I dose Xtra and AALPS twice a week on the same day and CV and Amino Acid concentrate 2-3 times a week. I've had great success with the KZ products without having to run the full Zeo line. IMO you need to supplement the "coral foods" when running low nutrient tanks. When my tank was new, I was only feeding my fish and corals once a day minimally. My corals were pale and not vibrant at all. I came to realize that I didnt have the proper balance of nutrients (both phosphate and nitrate) for my sps to thrive. I started feeding 3-4 times a day along with the KZ products and now my corals are thriving. I'm running a bare bottom and overskimming so I can afford to overfeed both the corals and fish without having algae problems.

I currently used pohl's AA and coral vitalizer. I dose both daily full recommended dosage. So if I start xtra I don't have to use AA anymore?

see how it goes, every tank is different so I cant tell you for sure, but I would start with Xtra opposite days, and cut AA in half at least, and observe.

if brown film is observed, stop AA. if corals are pale, then increase AA by a bit.

in general, In my opinion, Xtra has better [nicer] effects than AA which just darkens color, so if still pale I would personally just increase Xtra dosage
there is a limit on Xtra though, since it contains elements, overdosing it, might cause some browning in corals. not from increased nutrition sometimes [some tanks needs it, they are too clean] but from increase in elements.

hope I didnt make it more confusing :D

Hello,

Sorry for my bad english, cause I am french

I have a 90gallons with mix SPS/LPS/Soft corals around one year
light: Pacific sun metis 3*150W (60% of power)
Skimmer: BBK180
+ refugium in DSB
KH:8
CA: 440
MG: 1350
NO3: 5
PO4: 0.02
I change 10% per week (salt DDocéan, redsea coral pro or Reef Cristal)
I use balling (fauna marin light) but I have to put in place my reactor deltec pf501) in a while.

My corals are great, they grow, they can have great colors but can be improve. I gave them some food twice a week and sometimes with some AA fauna marin.

I used KZ products in the past on my last tank with success (Pohl xtra Special, coral snow, sponge, iron, potassium). My coral had great color with polyps extension all the time.

And I want the same to my new tank. So I need you to know which product and what quantity.
I want great color, with polyps daily, and good health to sps/lps/zoanthids

:-)

I do not want to put in place zeovit but just some elements.
I planned : Pohl xtra Special or just Pohl xtra????
Pohl coral vitalizer, AA LPS or not necessary??
Coral Snow + Zeoback.
But may be I am wrong or need other things...

Thanks

to give you an idea aboiut my tank and coloration I don't know if they are pale or brown... because I think it depends some of them or pale other brown:

Piero,
Judging by the pigmentation of your corals, you should not really bother dosing any additives into your aquarium. Pohl xtra, coral vitalizer, and amino acids are all food sources designed for tanks running on a very low nutrient system. I recommend getting your nutrient levels down to get more vibrant colors in your sps.

+1

OK thanks,

so as for you, may be I have to put in place Filter carbon with carbon source to reduce NO3 and PO4?

what about my refugium? to remove it or let it in place?
