L.A. in wall 800 gallon system!

I am in love with the Kalk reactor, but I'm wondering if I should run it with the auto top off or through a separate dosing schedule? If I run it through the auto top off I'm worried that it can empty out all the contents of the reactor in a day!
 
Running it with the Top Off shouldn't be a problem. Not all the kalk dissolves at once, the water reaches a saturation point and once saturated the remaining kalk is the white sludge at the bottom. When your topoff runs it should be trickling water into the Kalk mixer at the bottom, and pulling the clear water from the top. As the water trickles through then slowly more kalk dissolves into the water column.

Now the only thing I am not sure of is with your Kalk reactor whether your mixing pump is designed to run 24/7 or just for short periods throughout the day.

Mine uses a pump that mixes the kalk a couple of times a day, and then my Apex shuts the topoff off for an hour after it mixes so that the non-saturated Kalk settles to the bottom and then only the clear water becomes the top off.

^^ that's how mine is set up as well. I have the mixing pump turn on 3 times a day (every 8 hours) and that makes a white slurry in the reactor that needs 2 hours to settle before I can pass top off water through it. In my tank topping off with kalkwasser has a tendency to raise the PH too high, so mine is a bit more complicated in that if the PH reaches 8.24 another pump is used to push straight rodi water to top off, bypassing the kalk reactor altogether.
 
I used to use a 3 way solenoid valve to top off Kalk at night and Pure RO during the day, because theoretically I would be using to maintain my pH at night.

But with my system volume it seems fine with Kalk 24/7. So I removed one more mechanical device from the system.
 
I could definitely see that, mine is a measly 125. When I first implemented the reactor I immediately got a text message saying that the PH was 8.40, so I have to devise a way to control it.

I’m sure a 400 or 800 gallon tank wouldn’t have that sort of problem.

Thanks for the priceless wisdom and experience... I will definitely use the information to put together the Kalk reactor, I just need to find out from the manufacturer weather I should have the pump on a schedule.

your tank already looks like a well established tank. I can't wait to see it in another year. hopefully sometime next year you will host another meeting.

Are you going to use a co2 controller ? If, so ... what is going to be your desired PH ?

I run mine in 5.7 but i think is low ??

I can't wait to see the coral grown out...This is gonna be the longest year of my life!...LoL. I'll have to be paitent I guess! :headwally:

Hey, I hope this helps ....my controller is set to 6.6 ph and seems to work great, but I think the size of the reactor helps me not to have to over drive it with too much Co2. :wavehand:
