Aquascaping!

Aquascaping!

Wow, its looking really great. how is the aquascaping going to look, any thoughts? how about a peninsula style reef. it would really look awsome. congrats.

I'm going to be posting the rock formations/ Aquascaping pics very soon...I'm going to have approximately 3 reef islands. I'm looking into keeping the rock work minimalistic so as the coral grow that's what will fill the empty space.
I really loved how simple and beautiful Chingchai's aquascaping and I am definitely thinking along that design style.

I will post pics soon...

does the dimming function really work on these ballasts??

Phenomenal build George!

I use the Lumatek's myself and the only way to dim them is if you were running a 400w bulb and selected them to 250w they don't have the ability to ramp up or down. They are awesome ballasts though. Good choice!

The tank and home are just beautiful. I have subscribed. really looking forward to seeing this come together. Sincerely love the colored plumbing and I am going to use this idea on my tank.

Thanks James for the info on the Lumatek ballasts....I just wish they could ramp up and down (but that's a feature that LEDs have...lol). :spin2:

Here are a few of the rocks I began with...

Here is the first Island I put together .... I used zip ties to start myself off!

After using zip ties then I would go in afterwards and pour cement over the joints (a special type of cement) and here is the first one thats almost done!

Looks great... the one on the right kind of looks like a horse :D

The one thing you might consider changing is taking out the one rock that bridges the two islands on the right, and instead place a monti cap there that will create its own overhang/swimthrough. Just my 2 cents though...

Keep it up!

Excellent thread. I really like the aquascape but agree with chad on both accounts. The far right looks like a horse. Once you get corals on it of course it won't but I do see a horse. And agree that the bridge between the right and center island feels out of place. But that's from this perspective that the photo is shot at. Perhaps from another perspective it would feel right a home. Keep up the great work and pics!

Looooooking gooooood

Hi you guy's,

I have not forgot you with regards to your questions just been working:) I have tried to get the Hydro info. to you but i not the best at this stuff. Reef Builders is where i saw it and have now gotten a PDF file from the builder i will send you just pm your email to me.
Your rock work is nice it's fun to watch DIYs and your doing great at them. The skimmer and other items you got is going to make one super system that will grow and live endless time with proper care.
I don't have a tank build thread since i am doing so many DIYs those are what my threads are. Will do a build one once i can stop myself from building so much extra stuff and put everything together:deadhorse1:

Keep up the great work you two!

Hey George... Looks like its comin along nicely...

What is the plan for the big vat?
What are the next steps to get the tank running?

Hey Squatting & Reefgirl777 thanks for the support and feedback!

I can't wait to see the Skimmer in action (its a monster! )

As for that Large Vat-Tub..its a 200 gallon beast that I will be using as part of the water volume of the tank, I will also cut it off from the main tank when I want to do a water change and drain it directly to my sewer system, and then also use it to mix my new salt water and then turn the valves and reconnect it to the main system again!
As far as what is left for the tank to be ready...
1. Finish Plumbing in the Vat
2. Hang the lighting
3. Do a water test
4. Disconnect old sump from previous tank and connect it to the new tank.
5. Place rockwork in the tank and do a little more rockscape once its in!

My T-5 fixtures came in and they are beautiful!! I got four fixtures that will hold four 5ft bulbs each...(two purple actinic, one blue, one pink) ! I also have installed on the walls and ceiling around where the light fixtures will sit a reflective sheeting so no light will be lost!

I knew a guy who talked to me a lot about a tank this size in his house, and he used to always ask me a lot of suggestions on the tank. But I have since then been in no contact with him, I lost his number....

What cracks me up about your rock structures is that they are huge when you made them but put them in the tank and subbenly it’s a game of wheres Waldo. hehehehe. This tank is huge and I am impressed at the level of thought you have for the way it needs to go together. Have you looked into Aquaroche Ceramic rock? They have some pices that can be connected to one another or stand alone pillars. I love the look of these. Heres a link http://www.aquaroche.fr/gb/produits/reef/conditionnement.php note that some of those pillars are almost 30 inches tall. heres a video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X44EmSCAz8 So for a tank as tall as yours you can use the full water colum with ease.

I am vary pumped up about this tank. Keep up the good work and thanks for posting all the progress for us dreams to live vicariously…….
