This one is my favorite new Coral...the colors are intense and I've been looking for a nice Red Planet. This one has a very deep green body with Pink tips and burgundy polyps!

Can someone educate me on Ozone reactors and how they help the tank/what is their function? Also I've heard that if you don't do it right it can be dangerous to the fish!

Also my water looks a little hazy at times...I was told this was because of algae living in the water column! That same person told me that a UV sterilizer would clear that up, what do you think? Would and Ozone reactor do the same?

:hammer:

Check out these three articles:

I am reading through the first link on Ozone and reading about it's benefits...but unlike what C6Angel said I don't see anything about it helping with "Ich" does anyone here wanna chime in about Ozone and the benefits they've seen?

Thanks,
George

Here's what I know about it.

Ozone sterilizes the water, making it super clean and clear. It also removes phosphates, as well as a few other proteins, bacterias and nutrients.

I am pretty sure it won't help with Ich.

It kills parasite 10x better than UV IMO

Ozone is also a disinfecting agent. Since it can combat with most pathogens, ozone can make the residents of the aquarium live healthier and longer.

It doesn't help with phosphate removal but it will look like your fish are floating in air because the water is so clear even with lots of flow!

The only reason it's not popular because too much ozone can wipe out your whole tank.

That might be a drawback !!!!

I am also interested in the possibility of adding ozone to my 215 DT, (total system volume = 325 gals). What are the proper parameters and what would wipe out the tank?

WOW Lawrence, your reef tank looks breath taking! I really do see the clearness of the water. Great job on your rock work and coral! What method do you use to dose ozone and what brand of equipment did you purchase? What brand should I be looking for for the ozone reactor /generator /orp meter/etc.

What do you guys think?

George
Right now I am using a cheap 300 mg ozone generator feed directly through skimmer.
Monitored through apex.

If you want to do it right get a 200mg ozotech kit from BRS and get a good size reactor from avast, reef octopus and the best SIAM REEF ( Ching Chai reactor )
If you don't want to run a reactor you can directly feed it to the SRO xp8000

George,
extremely impressive.....it will only get better as the tank matures. Love the fact that you can view the whole tank from different rooms.

Some Details about the video

Some Details about the video

I finally got a short video together of the Aquarium.

It's been up and running since the beginning of February and it's already coming along pretty nicely. I hope that it shows clearly that the tank is pretty much a three sided in wall tank! The video is short and I will post some more stuff soon with the details to the sump and other gears/cogs to the inner workings of this tank!

Wow I just went threw the whole build and it is very impressive. Well done and stunning reef tank. I hope you have luck with the large wild colonies you got, they can be tricky to keep alive. I would make a frag or 2 of each just to be safe.

WOW thanks for reading my thread that's a great compliment in itself!
it's true wild colonies are hard to keep alive but if you keep the lighting strong and have more than adequate flow then you have a decent chance of survival in my own personal opinion. Thanks for the heads up! The issue is that I have a lot of real estate to cover in the tank and buying only 1"-2" aqua cultured frags would be a nightmare to grow out. I did purchase lots of aqua cultured SPS as well but I don't think I could have done all aqua cultured and no marine colonies.
How does fragging them help? Is it just to have two or more peices just incase it starts crashing?

Thanks for jumping in and your input is really appreciated! Thanks
