LA issues

Just received my first live aquaria coral shipment and must say I am very disapointed in the size of the frags vs what they listed on their website. Is this normal for them ? I have 3 Montipora digatata that they advertised as 1-2" frags. The three of the measure .7 , .5 , .75 " from the top of the plug to the tip of the frag. I also received 2 Monti Caps that were advertised as 1-2" and they are less than 1 sq in. I suppose if you measured diagonally across the frag it would be just at 1" but only .5" across. When I contacted them they said to give it time they will expand...... as in grow ??? they will be at their advertised sized in about 1-2 months.....

any thoughts. I feel cheated and wish i did not go off and order from then. I usually buy local and will from this point on. buyer beware i guess.

This may be the first time I have heard anything bad about live aquaria. They are probably the only company that I really havent heard complaints about. Most people consider them the gold standard of service.

Just fish for me from LA/DD. Most of the time sizes are within stated ranges; occasionally bigger or smaller.

They really sent you a half inch nub? When it said 1 to 2"?

I'm very surprised. Though I have never bought coral. I've always been superbly satisfied with everything else.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

Here is there response .

We sincerely apologize if you do not feel as if the measurement for the frags was correct. When they arrive, due to the stress from shipping, the frags will be retracted and will not measure to size correctly. After they have had a chance to recover, you should find that when full expanded that they will measure to the correct size.

This will be the first time I have ever seen a montipora frag skeleton expand when the skelatal structure is only .5" to .7 inches. the diameter of the frags is also only 1/8" sticks. There only offer to me for 4 undersized frags was a 25.00 credit. Needless to say I will never order from them again. I was expecting so much more from them based on their online reputation. And then for them to do nothing is just a shock.

Sorry for your experience I have order from them once the only issue I had was they delayed my shipping for weather reasons...

I will probably give them another shot. However I am really floored by their response . I will in the future only buy wswig frags. But to tell me an sps will expand in time??? As in grow?

That might have been a proper response for softies or lps, they obviously didn't know what corals were bring discussed. I would definitely call them.

I have and was very dissatisfied. Even after offering to take pictures next to a ruler. The sad thing as this started as I just wanted to let them know they were shipping undersized frags. When they started making excuses and comments tat did not make sence . I then had to wonder who else had these same results.... They did give me a 25.00 credit off my next order. But when they advertise 1-2" I expect that.

I've bought plenty of corals from them and they have always been spot on for the quoted size. But I always get them from DD. Also they measure by the widest point, whether its diagonal horizontal or vertical.

The only bad I would have to say is the color can be slightly misleading but that could be due to lighting or shipping stress as well. Aside from a couple pieces out of well over a dozen I have had no issues.

Also, no matter what the complaint, you can't beat a 30 day no questions asked guarantee on their aquacultured stock. and 14 days on the rest.

Try ordering from Reefs2go if you werent pleased with LA!!! LOL

The issue I think is, the corals arrived alive and in good shape right? You can't possibly expect a full refund when you have healthy corals in hand. And especially if you told them that. And as mentioned above, their measurements are taken from the longest angle.

I see "misleading color" as a regular complaint for them. Their photos of all livestock are taken under 400 watt radium halides from what I understand. And just about all hobbyists do not use them. No other halide will look the same, let alone LEDs (cheap or good) or t5s etc...

If your corals are healthy, and arrived in good shape, that would be a good start.

Try buying corals from other hobbyists only to have them die or melt within hours or a couple days, and then be ignored, blown off, or given the run around when you inquire about a replacement they said they would do, upon original purchase, if any problems arose. At least they offered you something and you still have healthy corals.
