"We got something amazing today! For the first time ever at LiveAquaria - Male and Female True Western Australia Personifer Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus personifer), direct from Australia shipped to our Aquaculture Coral and Marine Life Facility in Rhinelander WI! You can expect to see these in the Diver's Den in a few weeks."

Please forgive my ignorance...(I'm more of a tang guy than an angel guy) but is this a big deal? I assume it is and that's why you posted it, but what makes it so great?

tampa reefer

because the TRUE personifers are hard to come by here in the states more like next to impossible to come by in the states.. i think it has a lot to do with the actual range of the TRUE personifers and the tight collection regulations on them

they will be a fish that you must spend hours and hours and hours on divers den the day the are on the sneek peek email..refresh buton..refresh button..refresh ..refresh..refresh until you see them posted and you had better be checking out with them in your cart the 1st 1/100000000000 of a second they are posted

in my opinion

Wicked huge. Wonder why the black does not develop on some and prominent on others? Is this trait more likely to develop in adult size 7-8"?

Any guess on pricing?

Based upon the recent prices on Bluelines (which now seem to be alot easier to acquire), I would assume that prices for a rare to the U.S. market True Personifer will be pretty significant. If I had to hazzard a guess for a DD True Personifer, I would guess in the neighborhood of $1500-$2500. Based on the limited number they received it could be significantly more. I wonder if Kevin Kohen has a steady supplier for these now? It will be cool to finally see some of these specimens in people's tanks.

i would say 3 to 4k. these fish are very hard to get to let alone having the permits and such to collect.

ken, youre amazing!

some one call coppss and let him know lol!

in my opinion

Personally I'm a bit doubtful, as the high price and average looks will put off most people. The only reason to want these is because no-one else has them. I personally don't know many reefers who think like that. The thread on the French butterfly was interesting for that reason. People were passing up on it for weeks because there were prettier cheaper species available on a regular basis. The french is rare, but who cares?

Just my opinion. With these small numbers I guess all you need is two interested buyers and they could disappear instantly. We'll see.

its not only the rareity but the cost associated with obtaining fish this deep.

from what i remember this fish lives at 300 to 450ft deep. ime anything below 200 is what i consider extreme diving.

shiny penny

although i agree with you to some extent for the average aquariust there is a prety good size group of rare angle collecters right here on rc that a few of them seem to have the bucks to purchase these fish and they will be clammering all over each other to pick up one of the 3 pair..iam almost certain that if they have 3 males and 3 females they will be sold as pairs.. personally i think the false and the true personifers look enough alike that i wont be spending the kinda cash theses fish are gonna be priced at and i dont have that kinda cash either my lottery ticket last night was a looser.. iam betting the 1st pair wont last but a few seconds before they are sold

disclaimer..this is only a personal opinion with no basis other than my thought..and we all know opinions are like butt holes everybody has one

Its certainly fascinating how essentially identical fish can command vastly different prices based on their rarity.

:lolspin: You obviously don't frequent this forum often. There are many Angel enthusiasts that will be quick to jump on these rarities. I don't think they will have a hard time selling these fish. JMO.....

These fish will go within a minute,no problem. For me though I'd rather save the extra money and get a meredithi, along with several other fish as well!

The fish will sell, but 3k dollar angels that are for all intents and purposes identical to 300 dollar angels are something of a niche market.

Some people have dreams about adventures on capturing rare species on remote location, few have copps hard work that allow him some of most amazing fishing capture adventures... so we may just be happy enough to have a true fish from that location in our tanks ... maybe this may explain why we care about rare fishes...
maybe we just want to say ... I have , you not... but usually people don't care about it ... so we just have a secret smile that only few other RC members may envy or share because sometimes ...a fish is just a fish...

If I had the appropriet tank and tge bank roll I'd get a pair do entirely to the fact noone else will have them

I completely agree with you, rare and expensive saltwater fish are a niche market. However there are many, who don't necessarily post here or on any forums, that easily have the coin to drop on a $3k fish. For that matter there are several posters here on the site that can afford that fish but don't necessarily feel the need to tell people about it. Rarity rather than overwhelming beauty will push the sale of these fish.
