LA lands True Personifers

Back to the fish.

In the picture posted, are those both females and males? They look all rather male-y to me :)

I agree, they look like mostly or all males. Also, where did the picture come from? Is there some blog that I'm missing from my normal reading??!!!

The pic is from their facebook page.

Regarding sexes, To be honest, theres only one I see that I would definitively call a male. The rest are questionable. IMO, and IME, both males and females do exhibit some faciual patterning, whereas the males have a vivid, entrancing "netting". The picture is too broad to see such detail, and as such, I certainly wouldnt call them all males, in my opinion.

In reality, I am going to stop posting on these forums. I have been posting on these forums for over six years now (longer than most of you). They no longer have any interesting learning threads on them. Such a shame from years ago when these forums were really about keeping reef fishes and not discussing every fish that seems to land in a fish store's list of "for sale"

Well you know, some people still enjoy posting reading here. I think it's probably a good idea if you can't find any enjoyment here. It would be nice if you'd quit dragging down other's threads because you don't like them.

Let's make something clear. This forum is "Reef Fishes". Live Aquaria is the biggest supplier of rare/unusual fish that I am aware of (if you think I am saying this because they are a sponsor, you don't know me very well).

There are many addicted fish keepers on this forum that would think nothing of paying $1,000 for their "dream fish". Also, much like people read the "Tank of the Month" threads knowing they could never afford such a setup, many people enjoy discussing the special fish that they may never own.

You are bashing people for enjoying the offerings of a company that specializes in the very product people come to this forum for. That is fairly asinine. It doesn't matter if you feel the fish are overpriced or not. Your posts are consistently negative and you seem to delight in mocking people for coveting these species. You don't like DFS/LA. Fine. We get that. It is time for you to stay out of these threads and to stop doing nothing more than be a voice of negativity.

For the record, when Marine Center was an active supplier, it was quite common for the latest/greatest wrasse species to be posted on here (and MC has never been a sponsor).

Take your own advice and step away. I have had several requests for Buster to intervene, but I am giving you a chance because I do see in some threads some good advice from you.

I guess I'm just thinking from my experience with anthias. Fish, so close in size, even if still somewhat female, can cause problems, especially if the male is somehow slightly weaker than the female. Not sure that applies at all to something like a personifer, though.

Yeah, Im not sure the mechanism of sex change as as congruent. Here were talking about pair forming fish, or at best small small harems. Sex change would not need to be so instantaneous. Whereas with anthias, where the group size is enormous, sex change being lightning quick is a definitive advantage. I would speculate (and its just a guess), than any hermaphroditic activity would be notably slower in these fish.

Michael, yep that fact has kept me from financial ruin on a couple of occasions. Though, whenever I get the bigger tank up.. <Shudder>
