Labor Day Weekend!

Is anyone going to do any picture taking this weekend? Me and the GF are going to Utah to Moab to take pictures on the national parks there. We'll hit flaming gorge, arches and canyons park. Hope to get some pictures for the wall. Probably run out of time or we'd come home through Teton/Yellowstone. That's okay We're planning a trip there this fall for the foilage. Its only a couple hours from home. We can do that anytime.

My Singh-ray filters won't get here in time. Little disappointed in that. I'll post when I get back. Hope you all get out too.

Mike

We are going to try to spend some time in Deep Creek, Md. Want to get some pics of the waterfalls. The weather isn't supposed to be good so I may have to wait and take a day off to get there.

Probably my favorite place in the world.
Some advice.
When you got to Arches, get onto the Delicate Arch trail a little before the sun comes up. That way you'll have a shot of getting there before anyone else does.

I've been there probably 15 times, but last summer when my wife and I went was the first time I'd been able to get to the Arch first. We had about 20-25 minutes before a tour group behind us made it. The pics are much better before there's a crowd of people sitting under it.

The dark angel hike is a little longer, so no matter when you go, if you go all the way out there you have a decent chance of having it to yourself.

If you're taking some extra time, and go into the backcountry, overnight camping areas of Canyonlands, you can hit the really sweet sites; much better, IMO, than the stuff on the short trails (we did a 5-day bike trip through there when I was in middle school).

Next trip, go to the Western side of the state and hit Bryce and Zion.

Cool guys, got me pumped for the trip. Doug. I got a 2 stop soft and a 3 stop hard. Going to hand hold them. Jesse, lets hope for a break in the weather for you, i'd like to see some nice snaps.

Since me and my GF took up this hobby we always buy yearly passes to the national parks. This will be a big year. We went to the black hills, devils tower, glacier a few times, jellystone and teton and now utah. I need to plan a yozmight, sequoia and grand canyon.

We are road tripping from Ohio to Ca. starting tomorrow. Our schedule puts us at Grand Canyon on Labor Day Sunday (Not great planning but thats how it came out.), and Monterey Bay Aquarium on Tuesday.

I forgot in my last post, in case you haven't been there in the August-Sept time of year, take water. Lots of it. And then add more. It's not uncommon to get into the low 100s at this time of year, and there's not a lot of shade on some of the trails.

Also, when you're driving, keep an eye out for bikers. Since it's a long weekend, a lot of people will go down for their last bike trip before the school year really gets going.

Weather's looking better. Fey's crusing by pretty quick. It's supposed to start clearing up tomorrow, plus all the rain should have the falls really moving!!!! We're planning for early Sunday!!!!

:D

From our last trip there. These are with our old point-and-shoot, with no post processing. The pictures of Delicate Arch are late in the day, but then there are a dozen people sitting under it, so that's a downside:

This is taken from under Delicate Arch, looking back at where the trail comes around. We took this shot only because it's usually filled with people, and there weren't any at the time:

Actually, for that shot I was basically standing near the left edge of the second picture; from the other side of the bowl.

Cool you're going to like those. I hand hold them as well. I have those and also have the 3 stop soft and the reverse grad. It's hard to justify the $100 until you've owned them.

That's a lot of driving!

MBA just got a great white shark in this week. You'll get to fight the crowds to see it. I got to see the last one they had. What an intimidating fish! Very menacing looking, and that one was only 6 feet long.

mm wife and I did the utah thing in june, man do i miss it. if it wernt a 28 hour drive id go back this fall :c).

We're going to Vegas this long weekend, and I'm taking my Nikon D40 with me. I have to admit that I'm fairly new to DSLR's so this will be the perfect opportunity to get acquainted with it, and familiarize myself with its features. I've taken so many nice creative shots with my Sony P&S so I'm really REALLY excited what kind of creativity this thing will unleash.

We're leaving tonight :)

Late bump, but we just got back to Ohio yesterday. With a few itinerary changes we managed to do Painted Desert/Petrified Forest on sat., Grand Canyon on sun., Monterey Bay Aquarium and Ca. coastal highway on tues., Zion and Bryce Canyon on thurs., then sprint back to Ohio by sun.

5500 miles in 11 days. I have a kodak point and shoot digital so not the professional quality of some here, but Ive got close to 500 pictures to process and host. We really had to cut short our visits to all of the parks, we were still debating going in to Bryce as we drove up the entry road.

Some quick pics, only resized for forums.

Wow, seems like a lot of you make it to Utah. My fiancee moved out here last sept, and myself in june from ohio. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. We are in cedar city, less than an hour from zion, bryce, and cedar breaks.
We both work for the state fish and wildlife department so we know some pretty good areas if you wan't some different scenery as well. It is pretty amazing to me, because every corner it seems like is another break taking vista, everyone that lives here just gets used to it I guess...
If anyone else is headed out this way this fall let us know, you are more than welcome to stop by and check out our tanks and relax a bit. We have plenty of cold beverages available, as well as a place to crash if you need it.
