Ladies and Gentlemen, I present, The Frankenskimmer!

Many thanks to Snowstar for the patience. This is the project I have been going nuts over for the past couple weeks. All I need now is about 2 days to test and tune.

Thanks to Lifereef for building such a nice skimmer for me to completely destroy and rebuild with a few tasty mods.

Without further delay:

here is what it used to look like:

and here it is now:

The last one is my favorite. That is the hand-made flange I carved out of 1/4" acrylic sheet from Mouldegraph with my Dremmel's circle cutter and a modified bit. Note the nice bright orange 100% silicone GIANT O-RING from Marco Rubber and Plastic Products, neatly nestled in it's groove!!! 100% silicone... this bad boy is ready for OZONE... should the owner choose to go that route.

It will be fed by a Maxijet in the 600 to 1200 range-- whatever the user wants the throughput to be (I'm thinking 600 is best but I could be wrong). The water will be brutally recirculated with an Oceanrunner 2700 needlewheel.

The only thing I may have to do is fabricate a simple centrifugal bubbletrap doo-hickie or other degassing thingamabob.

Woo-hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!

TESTING 1...2...3

Just a couple of shots with the new oceanrunner 2700 hooked up on the recirc and an old MJ 500 hooked up as a feed pump. I'm not sure I can get it to produce any skim with such a small volume of water. That's a 10 gallon seen in these pics. I can't hook it up on my tank-- no room-- so dialing it in may be best left up to Lisa. In these pics I have the throttle valve dialed so that the tapered section is full of froth. Get a load of the sheer volume of this thing! It is a monster!

Some microbubbles but not nearly as much as I anticipated. A simple box full of some GAC should do the trick but I'm not even sure I'm going to fool with it.

Hey, just a quick note. We have this thing up and running at the pet shop and it is producing skim. It isn't "dialed in" quite right yet but we'll get there. And guess what????? No microbubble problem! Who would have thought that???????? That's just crazy.
