Lalo or Uaniva

OK. I think I have narrowed down my LR choices and was looking for a little input. First the choices! :D

Lalo LR

Uaniva LR

Anyone have anything they can tell me regarding the rock in general, the color, shape density. Also do you like the rock and the vendors I have chosen.

Thanks as always!

Lalo is nice

Lalo is nice

I ordered Lalo a few months ago from Live Aquaria and was extremely pleased. I also ordered a box of the Deepwater Tonga and was somewhat dissapointed with it. Never heard of Uaniva so I am no help there. Here are some pics of Lalo. It came in completely covered in different colored corraline. The only downside of the Lalo was I did get several smallish pieces with it but I was very pleased with the quality!

ReeferKeith - how many pounds did you order? Looks like nice rock but I agree that some pieces are small. How long have you had it and how does it look now? Great colors on the rock.

It looses most initially, mine is starting to come back (the pink and purple and little spots of orange coraline) after about 5 or so months. Other than that I think its great other than it is uncured.

Cool. How much did you order and were you happy with the sizes? I am a little turned off by the fact that I cannot specify rock sizes.

Any pics?

Is it me or does that not look porous at all? Granted is has coraline, but other than that it tooks terrible for what is advertised.

lalo isn't as porous, "that's true", but it is covered with great colorful coraline algae. I got the lalo and I can confirm that.
I would just recommend to get it cured if you can and if you can't..."make sure you cure it", especially if it's going into an already established tank. I just threw it in my tank with grave consequences so please don't learn the hard way like I did.
Also, the more diversity the better, so if you like both rocks then get a little of both and don't be afraid to mix and match...."good luck"

benray4fun - ouch, sorry to hear about that!

It will be added to a new setup, but part of the new setup will be breaking down my old setup. I will have to cure it seperately in a rubbermaid container. I used the same container to cure my last batch of LR.

Is the Lalo sheet like? It seems like the few images I have seen of it are slabs, not nice big round pieces. Would you agree?

You'll get both slabs and big round pieces along with some rubble, but what's important is in the rock not the shape..."just work with it."

Actually, to me shape is important. :D

LR in general all does the same for a tank, regardless of where it is from. I am currently looking for pieces of interest, size, shape, coloring, etc.

Currently, I have Caribbean Live Rock and Fiji live rock. However, I need another 40 lbs or so and these two choices seem to have the most intesting color I have seen.

I got both the fiji and the lalo and when they arive the lalo has much color and the fiji doesn't at all. Now they're both turning green..."so much for the beautiful colors." Hopefully that's just temporary and the true colors will come out in the coming months...."we'll see"...

If you want shape, you might want to consider the Marshall Island live rock. I have purchased two batches from Premium Aquatics and have been very pleased with it. Great Shapes and very porous.

I ordered 40 pounds of the Uaniva today from Salty Critter. I should have it later this week. I'll let you know what its like when I get it.
