Large Blonde Naso Tang

What are you guys feeding your blonde naso tang? I've tried many frozen foods, pellets and flakes but it seems to only be interested in Nori, bubble algae and other algaes on the rocks. I am afraid it is not getting a proper diet. What other off the shelf algae can I feed it besides nori?

Eating primarily algae is OK for this fish.

Since you are in California, you shouldn't have much trouble to find an Asian grocery store - they got all kinds of dried algae, some store have a dedicated section just for algae.
Start with Wakame (the algae you usually get in miso soup). It swells up a lot when reconstituted in water. This allows you to load it up with vitamins, Selcon, ...
There are many more - just try.

Thanks for the info, didn't even think to soak the nori in selcon before adding it to the tank.

My Naso isn't Blonde but he eats Nori, flakes, pellets, mysis, clams, scallops and anything else that I hold in my hand. The only thing I haven't seen him eat is another fish. Fat and happy!

Try Emerald Entree frozen fish food. My buddy has had luck with that with his Blonde Naso. This is his 4th try with the Blonde Naso, he could not get the 1st 3 to eat at all. So for yours to be eating Nori has a very good start. Just be patient, I think he will come around eventually, just keep being persistent.

my blonde eats nori only, then i decided to feed everyone in the tank frozen mysid and he eats those too. have you tried frozen mysid?

Thanks for the response people! It's encouraging to hear that my blonde eating nori is a good first step. I do feed frozen mysis but it makes a beeline to the over flow to hide when the tank gets feed.

I figure it was scared of all the fish activity during feeding (16 fish) so I fed one side and tried to I individually feed the blonde. It wasn't having any of it. I will get some more seaweed and soak it in selcon/garlic power. If it takes the nori with those additives soaked into it. I'll try soaking the frozen food in selcon/garlic power also. That's my plan for now lol.
