i have a large yellow and black striped spearing mantis for sale. he's simply growing way too big for his tank and i'm unable to get him a bigger one.he's about 6-7inches long and succcesfully molted about 2 weeks ago. i'm in kent ohio but i'd be willing to ship if nobody can pick it up.

let me know if anyone is interested i hate to give him up but it beats the alternative.

I wish I could help you!!

I wish I could help you!!

I don't have room for him, though he sounds gorgeous!! I can ask at my lfs if they know anyone looking ...?? I love in Grand Rapids, MI.

ok, so i took some pictures and i found what i think it is. heres a link to the website which has some information on which mantis i think it is

http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/arthro...costraca/royslist/species.php?name=l_maculata

and some pictures if they work (i promise he's not this blurry in real life...)

he eats pretty much any fish i've ever put in there, shrimp too, leaves crabs and a brittle star in his tank completly alone, he is usually fed frozen seafood from our local asian grocery store but occasionally i have fed him live food. let me know if you're interested --Erik

i so looking for a mantis and i would love to have this guy... but after researching it i just cant give him the vertical home he needs... having a 12" sand bed for him to be able to dig a burrow in when he gets older is quite demanding.

Good luck though... i would LOVE to have him, but alas...

yea, i read that and have talked to other people, they seem to form horizontal tunnels so i don't know why they suggest such a deep hole. the alternative is to geve them a pvc pipe in the rocks thats as long as they are

yes, but if you read what i posted you'll see why i don't quite understand the depth.

"seem to form horizontal tunnels "

that makes sense, but i gave him a 5 inch sand bed (yes i know still not deep enough) and he still made his tunnel pretty much completly horizontal.

i live pretty close to you i think, by youngstown...i have a 30 layin around..my only concern is the sand, if he gets to big for my 30, i also have a 40L but i just dont want to have a 5-10 inch sandbed in my tank.

well the tank he was in before i ever got him was barebottom, so you'd be a better place for him then that. (they also told me a 12gallon would be fine for him) but he definatly outgrew that. if you give him sand and/or a pvc tube that'd probably be fine. i've yet to see or even hear of someone with one that actually grew to 18inches in their tank.

i'm in kent, on the border of ravenna on 59
