Larvatus, Happy Birthday!

So is this your fish and how long have you had it and what does it eat?

Besides the tank probably being too small for all those fish, this was pretty funny to watch!

I have this fish for almost two years now. The tank is over 100gal. You may see a lot of fish from this angel. I guess they swam to the side because they saw me and wanted me to feed them....:)

That guy sure loves your vortech.

I agree, WAY too many fish for the long term. I think I spotted an adult emperor as well as all the others. I would expect the angel to take out some of the butterflies as it gets older.

Wonderful fish for sure but most likely he wont be with you for long. He looks very stressed to me and considering the required diet for Larvatus the chances for a longer term success are slim, to be modest.

Show us a video of that larvatus feeding along with the other butterflies.........that would truly entertain me.

Is it me or the fish is really that skinny? Hope I'm wrong.

Here is the picture of the birthday boy. He has been like this since day 1.:fun4:

Thanks for the advice. They are getting along well so far, but you are right, I think I will move the emperor (and the other angels) to another tank later.

Ammm..ok, I don't think I have the latest, but....

This one was taken way back when I had a pair....I lost the smaller one one year later due to disease....

This one was taken few months ago. The box is the feeding station just for this baby. No other fish can disturb the larvatus during meal time.

Nice! Can you explain the process you used to get them eating regular foods like that? What did you start with?

don't be fooled by this corallivore, this is a smart fish (and a very active fish). When you quarantine the fish, put some rocks or a cave in the quarantine tank. Let it keep itself calm for a day or two. You don't need to worry about feeding it on the first two day. Once the fish is calm, it will start picking at the rock or searching for something to pick on. You may prepare some shrimp paste mixed with clam and mussels to give it a complete nutritious meal. You can put the prepared food on a shell and place it next to the cave or rocks.

Once it is used to prepared food, you may add some fry food powder and small pallet to the mix and increase the proportion gradually. This will give more nutrition to the mix.

Althought this may sound straight forward, I studied the fish behavior and planned everystep of the way to make sure everything went right. Afterall, this fish is worth the effort.
