Larvatus off DD - anybody here get it?

Wednesday.

Had to call and ask them to move shipping back one day because I'm traveling on Tuesday. It's going into my 55 qt that the multibar currently resides in. Been waiting for one since I missed the last one. The timing on this one is better anyway.

Wow.........good luck Matt. If you have success I'm going to have to take a drive down your way to see it.

You definitely want to think outside the box when it comes to the presentation of the food. I think they struggle with the textures too.

If you need anyone to bounce ideas off of, let me know.

Appreciate all the kind words, I'm really looking forward to this fish, ships on Tuesday!

As I mentioned before, it will be going into a pretty "seasoned" quarantine tank that is currently housing my Multibar angel. I haven't started any treatment on that system as I've been kind of lazy lately and also the need hasn't presented itself as the multibar appears totally healthy.

My retailer has a large order of LRS coming into today and was lucky enough to have a couple of the experimental breeder packs get added to the order. I'm hopeful that this fish will take to that food. I will also have the gold standard, PE, on hand too should it not take.

Long term, I have intentions of setting up an autofeeder for frozen food. I'd like to be able to dose small bursts of food to my tank many times a day. I've seen a design on RC that uses a college dorm fridge, a BM doser and a venturi. Unless Avast releases their product in the next couple months, that will be my course.

I'll be sure to post videos and pictures as soon as she comes in. In other exciting news, I included three of those blue and black hermits to get the free shipping, so woohooo!

One more thing, I have intentions of feeding 2 to 3 times a day, with several microfeedings during each main feeding time.

Kevin, if you happen upon this thread, I'd be curious to know how often you were feeding this fish.

IME with this fish, and also with a pair of C. baronessa (triangulum??) many, many years ago, the fish will go after tiny pieces of food first. And the texture needs to be smooth and soft. I personally doubt it will eat any PE... even minced.... ever. But I have high hopes for the smaller particles in the LRS food. I had good success with Ocean Nutrition VHP frozen formula, of all things, with the baronessa (and also with regal angels). My larvatus also liked tiny minced clam... if you've ever worked with thawed clam out of the shell you know how aromatic and "slimy" soft it is... even compared to raw shrimp or scallop. The same is true with thawed VHP Formula... super soft and slimy. Not unlike a coral polyp, I guess

Also, this:

as I've been kind of lazy lately

needs to be a thing of the past with this fish ;)

Maybe get some ON Formula one? Much different than formula2 - very slimy & smooth as Peter has mentioned. I wish I can send it to you - I used 1 cube & it went ignored & made a mess. It seems like the type of thing they might try, though. Can't wait, Matt! mucho jealous...

Thanks for the great info Peter!

Did you find feeding minced clam worked better than whole clams cracked open?
I've got access to some ON food, but I think it's formula 2. Truthfully, I'm not a big fan of ON anymore, but I see the logic behind using it here.

I guess I shouldn't say I've been lazy, just relaxed in my quarantine treatment with the multibar and regal. Usually I'm trying to get them through, so I can introduce them into my DT ASAP.

I'm anxious/nervous to treat the multibar prophylacticaly because it seems completely healthy and I'm nervous to introduce my regal because it's so big compared to my small regal that I've had for a year and a half now.

From a feeding and maintenance schedule it's been business as usual.

However I do want to get that auto feeder going soon for the day when I will undoubtedly miss some feedings or be out of town. It will be my insurance policy.

I'm pretty excited and have high hopes. IMO, a thriving eating corrallivore is just as rare as some of the high end angels we've been lucky enough to se hit the trade recently.

I did, but maybe the clams were too big (2" across at least) and the fish didn't quite know what to do with it. Plus, letting a clam sit in a small QT tank isn't great for water quality. I also found the fish to prefer certain "parts" of the clam more than other parts.

I actually really like ON. No other pellets gets accepted by butterflies, IME, as quickly as ON F2 small pellet.

Interesting, I don't feed any pellets, maybe I should.

I'm not too concerned about the water quality, my skimmer is a bit oversized....etss 1000 on a 55 gallon. It's all I had.

The clams I buy are cherry stones, about 1" across.

Shipped today, arrives tomorrow. Don't worry, they'll be pictures and maybe a video. Did get the electric blue hermits if you are interested in those...

Blue hermits woohoo, those are prized possessions. Look forward to pics of the little SOBs!

HEY..., they're electric blue..., not just blue legged. They will live in a bucket for the next 12 days as I complete the tank transfer procedure.

Paranoid.
