Last Fish

Okay, so i have completely re thunk my whole process of my tank..in case you dont know it's a 30g...the last of my babys..due some complications i was forced to send all my other tanks under for awhile...well anyways, the golden rule is the last fish is the most extravagent and usually the most aggressive..so the stock list is as follows...

-Scopas Tang (please don't yell, he's hardy as hell i promise)
-Firefish Goby
-Percula Clown
-Blue-lined damsel

What's my last fish is the question, im thinking long nosed hawkfish but i would like suggestions, also comments on if its a good choice...Thanks guys!

maybe hawkfish would attack your firefish... maybe a pseudocromis fridmani would be a better choice...

hmm wow, i didnt know hawks could be that agressive...fridmanis are nice thats a nice choice.

yea i had a fridmani in my 75reef he was very agressive...also very small which i thought was unusual..he was very intimidating to my golden maroon clown which was significantly bigger than he was.

for a 30 gallon tank, I'd say you are pretty much stocked up. how big is each fish? sometimes adding "just one more" can crash a tank - I know because I have done it, and try to resist JOM syndrome.

to address your question, my fridmani has never bothered any fish in the three years I've had it. I haven't had any problems with aggression from flame hawkfish, which are pretty mellow. I don't have experience with long-nosed hawks. no other hawk besides these two would be small enough for a 30.

I think you know this already, but if it hasn't outgrown your tank already, the tang will eventually need a considerably bigger home. scopas tangs are very nice, and are smaller tangs, but they still need more room than a 30 as they grow.

My long nose hawk was very aggressive but too small to really do any damage to any other fish...it was hilarious how he would try to bully my puffers if they came near his cave. Unfortunately he jumped and I did not get to him in time. I really miss that little guy

yea i am aware that eventually the scopas is going to e given to the lfs because im going away to school in the fall and my mom will be keeping an eye on things while im away...so i am going to have to move him within a year i think bc i know when i come back every couple of months, he will be bigger and bigger...the clown is maybe 2 inches, the scopas is decently big, ive had the clown over a year SO SLOW growing, and the damsel is about 3 inches, the firefish is small as well 2.5-3 inches

I still think your tank is pretty heavily stocked as is with fish that size. 30 gallons is not a big tank when you are talking sw. if you can keep water quality up, you still might have aggression problems, simply due to overcrowding. you could try it, but pay close attention to the tank, and have a plan B if things don't work out.
