lateral line erosion HILLE

I just purchased a Yellow Tang and it seems that it has HILLE.
Unfortunately, it was very tough to pick one out of 20 Tangs.
The picture is not very good because the Tang is very shy and hiding. However, I think it is possible to see the whitening around the eye. What is not visible is the delineated lateral line.
Question is, shall I bring it back to the LFS, or shall I try to bring it back to health with good food & pristine water quality?

I'm not sure it is HLLE. New YTs often show light areas, around the head, along the lateral line, and other places, especially when lights go on & off. If this is HLLE; it should have been visible at the LFS. It may just be the typical ''stress' coloration most tangs have off & on during acclimation. I'm sure not 100% sure, though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that it couldn't be reversed if it was HLLE. Slowed and/or stopped yes, but reversed, I didn't think so. Healthy foods will help him not get worse.

I had the same problem two years ago and posted on another site about it.

"After a week of adding Selcon to the Tang's diet for only 1 week, the recovery is truly remarkable. Not only did the progression cease immediately, the areas that were affected have coloured up and are hardly noticeable, as you can see from the second picture.

In the end it was poor diet and this has been a good lesson for me on how/what to feed.

The Tang fully recovered within two weeks and I had him for another 16 months until he became aggressive towards a new Bannerfish and I had to let him go.

When I got my yellow tang from a fellow reefer, it had HLLE and I was able to stop & reverse it by feeding it a varied diet with vitamins added along with good water quality. I had a dwarf angel that got it when I switch from Rox to lignite carbon. When I went back to rox, it slowly went away. I think the lignite fines are harder to see and can easily get into the display if you aren't careful. I usualy let the water run clear from the reactor before putting the tube back into the sump, but with lignite I think some fines still get through and are hard to see.

Thanks for all the input! Appreciated!
I can report that the tang is finally feeding on Nori supplemented with SECON.

What kind of food (brand name) are you guys using to get them back to health?

Quick and probably really dumb question: How do you soak the nori sheets in selcon and then get it on the clip after it is soggy from soaking?

I am soaking frozen mysis in selcon and vita chem, but not sure how to soak the algae sheets?

Thanks

I fold up the Nori a few times and then only soak 2/3 or so in Selcon so that the part that will attach to the clip stays dry/intact. I use a 1 and 1/2 pvc endcap to soak the nori in and just wedge flat the part I want to soak the nori in.

This probably isn't making a lot of sense but lacking a video explanation...
