While diving about 30 miles out (75' deep) this weekend at one of our usual grouper/snapper spots, I spotted a juvenile atlantic blue tang. He was about the size of a quarter and all by his lonesome. No other "kids" or adults anywhere in sight. Had never seen one of these guys in the Gulf before. Every year, we see new/different tropicals out here. This year has had an increase in Atlantic butterflies and the pinkish/orange cardinals to go along with the normal abundent blue/yellow damsels and hi-hats.

Here is a picture of what they look like. This is a stock photo - I did not have a camera with me.

Ted,

I guess I need to organize a collecting trip. The buddies I dive with are always on a meat run, so something the size of a silver dollar, even if brightly colored, doesn't get them real excited. Plus I really don't have the tools to catch any of these guys.

Just got back from two days diving the east coast (Jupiter) - our Tortugas trip was cancelled due to weather. Unbelievable fish and coral (hard and soft).

Diving in the Gulf about 30 miles out yesterday - on 1st dive, saw my little juvi Atlantic Blue Tang in the same spot as a few weeks ago.

Then while diving a new spot, saw a nice little juvenile French Angel (not actual pic)

Both of these little guys were very friendly / curious.
