Yes the mandarin is getting fat again. I had a scare where I had to treat my tank with interceptor and all his food died so he started to really look bad and thin down. But I raised some pods and brine for a while and he has pulled through and is now just eating from my tank alone with no more raising any pods or anything.
Well I was in Denver last weekend and snapped a few pics of their aquarium over there. The acrylic is so thick on many tanks that picture taking is next to impossible but I was pretty pleased with the shots below. Enjoy and let me know which one is your favorite.
Yeah a flash was a must on all the shots in the aquarium. The tanks were very dark except for the reef tanks they had. The hardest part was getting the flash to not glare off the super thick acryllic.
Do you remember what your settings were for the 4th shot in the original post and the shot of the clam? Those are a few types of shots that I've really been working on lately and can't seem to capture it like you have.
I'm also going to try and turn off VR on the 105. Thanks for the tip.
Well I actually had vr on I believe for the first set of shots... in fact I had them on the last set too with the aquarium. Someone advised that VR is worthless within seven feet but I always try to have it on when shooting by hand anyways as I don't know why they would put it on a macro lens if it really was worthless at that close range. Maybe its just a marketing gimmick.
I grabbed the info from that 4th shot (the ric right?). I shot with iso 100 used f4 and 1/100 shutter speed. No flash.
Vibration Reduction. The equivalent of Image Stabilization? in Canon
Nice pictures. as to VR being worthless closer than any distance just hold your camera and lock focus on an object and even without taking a picture lookat how much this object is shaking. Turn ON VR and do the same asee the difference. A few test shots can also describe the rate of success at certain slow speeds with and without VR.
Thanks skeeter! I think the urchin shot turned out well.
I figured VR is helpful and after playing around with it some more I think it is great at any distance. I am really shaky and need all the help I can get when shooting by hand. Most fish shots are next to impossible with a tripod anyways (unless you can set up a focus point and have a lot more patience than I do).
All these were shot by hand with my d200 using my 105mm lens. I was tweaking the settings all day and with a few I used my sb800 flash. See if you can guess which ones used the flash, it was about 50/50.
And finally I like this one because it looks like the clown is trying to give you a hug.... ahhh.
As always I took a lot of pics and keep them all on My Flickr Page . Feel free to visit and take a look at what I've done. I always welcome comments critiques on my current and past pictures.
