Latest Pics

regarding the last batch of pictures, lots of them lack sharpness.
for some of them, all of the picture is out of focus.
you also have a lot of "noise" on those pictures what surprises me knowing you are shooting with a D200...
looks to me like most of those pics have been cropped.

awd2k - Can you be a bit more specific. I welcome critique but to say most of them lack sharpness and some of them are completely out of focus doesn't give me anything specific to work on. All of the pics are cropped and I don't see a lot of noise so if you could point out where you are noticing this I would appreciate it. I know a lot of the picture quality is lost when I go from raw to jpg as I don't have very good software and do not know how to use it very well. All these pics definitely look better in their raw format but those files are just to massive to post on the internet. I didn't raise the iso very much (kept it below 800 and 400 or lower on most shots) and so I am unsure where the noise is or how I can reduce it.

noise: the first two pictures and the two last ones are very "noisy" ... with the last one being a must!
lack of sharpness: first picture, second one, third one ...
out of focus: definitely the second and third pictures.

it is easier to get some "sharp web pictures" than "sharp prints" of the same pictures.
as web pictures, what you posted in this batch is not sharp at all and thus would not give quality prints.
as far as loosing quality when going from Raw format to JPEG ... there is probably something wrong in your process ;)

hope i am being "clearer" ... my poor english does not help a lot!

In that last phot the grain is very evident in the background which should be a smoother look. You can almost see the pixels/dots in the background. This is likely because you set you ISO up high enough to get a fast shutter speed. Unfortunately the ISO went up over the camera's noise tolerance.

The pic of the pink zoos and the favia lack the depth of field necessary to allow for enough of the image to appear in focus. The way they are the blurriness becomes a bit of a distraction. The first picture of the Ric also needs a bit more depth of field, though the shot setup would have benefitted from not having the out of focus area in the front detracting from the image.

Play around a bit more with your aperture and see what effect that has on your photographs.

Thanks to both of you. That is definitely some critique I can use to improve on my next shots.

I think I could get some good prints of 5, 6, 7 and 9 though.
