From what I was told, the reason that the batch was misbarred was due to some sort of imperfect water quality conditions when the fry were growing out. Thus, if water quality is optimal, the offspring of the misbars should be fine.
the root cause is water quality.
If you want to dig up the info yourself, feel free. I don't really care that much... yet. As for Drs in biology being the only reliable source of information, I'd point out that some of the best books written on the topic are not written by PhDs and that PhDs are often funded by companies who may favor a particular outcome.
I didn't mean my previous post to sound like I was some sort of authority, I thought it was common knowledge. My personal view being that it does stand to reason that you don't really see it much in nature and where there is more misbarring, it seems to correlate with rivers and coastlines that are heavily populated by humans.
The only other factor that makes sense is nutritional deficiency but by that logic, misbarring in nature would be seen in areas with very poor nutrient levels that were only capable of supporting a limited number of food sources. As we all know, plankton is densest in areas with high nitrogen content.
In a grow out tank you have the same food source day in and day out and you have high nutrient levels. So pick one.
yeah i'd rather add the pair of misbars just because there tank bred. if i sell my chiller sometime soon i will get them. thanks guys.
