latz clowns coming from aus..

thanks guys, spoke to the guy, he said i can have them even cheaper for taking them directly from him as the risk of them dying is on me instead of him holding them two weeks... hes getting 15 in, so I'll have a few to choose from :)

oh yeah, and he said theyre wild caught not captive bred...

lol, thanks

I have Metronidazole, PraziPro and Rid-Ich+. A bottle of ancient formalin somehwhere thta ive never used and dont actually know how to lol

Plus I was going to dip them with ParaGuard as soon as I get them. What else would you recomend?

Dipping them prior to adding them to the QT would be a very good idea. I am not familiar with Paraguard. Someone else will need to chime in regarding that product.
Throw the ancient formalin away. Any white percipitation in it is deadly to fish. Always use fresh formalin.

Dump the Rid-Ich+, not good for anything. Get some Cupramine instead and buy a new bottle of Formalin. I'd also have some Maracyn II on hand. I think MarinaP recommends double dosage on Maracyn II if needed. NEVER mix Cupramine with anything but Prazipro or Maracyn II.

Good Luck.

I've had 7 and lost 5. I've lost them to disease in the summer months when I failed to keep the temps below 80 and lost one to jumping when the night light burned out over my 210 gallon. I think they are similar in needs to A. polymnus. They tend to suffer from shipping stress, light shock, pop eye and disease in general but are particularly succeptable to disease when kept in tanks with temps warmer than their native waters.

I currently have a pair and have had them for almost a year now. I attribute my success this go around to having quarrantined them in hypo (1.009) keeping them in a target temp of 74-76 and the fact that I got them when they were small. The larger ones don't seem to fare as well with keeping their colors or their lives in captivity.

Here's a shot of mine from back in May.

A lfs I go to told me a supplier had latz on their availabilty. I asked the price and the location. Get this Latz at $1.70 ea. Yeah, a buck and change-of course the fish were not coming from Austrailia, and you can bet they weren't really Latz.

WOW never ever ever seen latz that small for sale, nice find and could be a great start. As stated before please QT them and have the meds ready, although I'm not a fan of formalin (rumors of sterility) but thats just me.
good luck

I don't know if this was covered already or not but just FYI, these ARE CB latz. They came in on the exact same date as another LFS owner in a different state. Some of them have under-developed upper jaws/noses. So, if you're buying be careful about which ones you select. For the fella wondering about how they're coming in this time of year, that's your explanation.
