Laud's 210 build

Not many people have that kinda patience. People come and go, but the patient ones stay around. Can't wait to see your thread.

AFter getting some corals and not doing many water changes at all, I started dosing with a 2 bottle solution of supplements. I was told that they would last me "forever", but a 2 gallon pair ended up making it 2/3 weeks. So I knew it was time for a Calcium reactor. My wife gave me the go ahead to get it and a phosphate reactor.

IMG_0011.JPG

After a few weeks of frustration getting the reactor tuned in I read a a Korallin 1502 thread and used my do-it-all Barracuda to help supply water to the reactor, which helped enormously. I also realized after a couple months that the 2 guage regulator had a front knob to increase/decrease pressure.

Now I've got my equipment.
Tank, stand, canopy, lighting, refugium, skimmer, phosphate reactor, calcium reactor and extra powerheads to run the system for now. The power heads are a vortech mp40 mj1200 mod and 2 koralia 4's.

Sean from Exotic Aquatic (was forced to) come over and see my setup. He said, and I quote, "Your rockwork looks terrible". I tried to copy his original setup of their showtank. He said that it was designed that way because of the 4 side visibility and my attempt "failed miserably".

It is a good thing I am open for criticism. Anyway, he came over a couple weeks later and completely redid my rockwork. Here are the before and after pics of the structures.

I have always liked the then/now pictures of coral growth from people, so I will do my best with my horrible camera skills.

Here is the best shot of the reef I have to date. It is from the right end. Also, a couple of coral shots. And now I am out of pictures.

And, don't ask... the bubble algae is NOT for sale!

nice coral growth

Thanks,
Did Marino420td's build thread clarify the columns for you?

Looking great, and thanks for sharing this awesome build thread! You're doing Rogger proud with his old tank. Only recommendation is bite the bullet and get a Tunze Wavebox. I remember when he had one (or two?) on that tank, and MAN that tank had some sick flow. Something about the dimensions made that tank really look fantastic with a wave generator blowing through it.

I liked the original rock islands, but I guess your friend didn't. That being said, I think that the new style rockwork isn't great either, as if there is one thing that I've learned when setting up a tank from the beginning, is that you've absolutely got to keep as much rock surface area away from the sand bed as possible. Any rock that touches the sand will instantly become a flow deadzone, and detritus and waste will pile up there guaranteed. Also when you keep your rocks off of your sand as much as possible, you open up many more opportunities for caves for your fish to explore or live in. I think that when I set up my tank with both of those principles (for the most part) it really helped keep my tank stable, steady, and healthy. That being said, upping the flow fixes most problems with deadzones anyway.

Either way, I still really like your tank, and am excited to watch it grow! Thanks again for sharing!

A couple things...

1) I don't have Rogger's old tank. I've got a frag from Rogger that was my very first coral.

2) I agree about the rock work. If I had the cajones, I would redo it again mixing the old and new together. I would keep the pillars, but would move them to the back, make the bases more pyramidal (sp?) for lighting exposure from bottom to top. Also, I would like an overhang in the center with a great deal of "swim through" area.

3) I've got 40 times turnover for flow. I'd like to redo my plumbing too and use the Barracuda as a closed loop system.

4) Thanks for riding along too!

5) Do you still have the Desjardin tang? I was thinking about getting one. Yours is beautiful!

This is a new member of the reef. He was a charity case and is about 7". Does anyone know what may be wrong with him or his fins? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I've got several types of foods I am going to start feeding him. Nori, some purple algae, prime 1, Rogger's food, mysis, romaine and Rod's food. This is my first Tang, so please don't be afraid to offer advice.

I've got a couple frags. Does anyone want to trade anything for them?

First is a blue stag of some sort that I got from Ty awhile back that broke in a small rockslide...
IMG_0681.jpg

Second is a German Blue digitata from MacawMagic. Excuse the coloration, it is sitting on the sand in the corner. Then again, it very well may be a neon green digitata from ORA. This one from careless hands...

in this pic your tang looks like he had a mad case of HLLE (Head Lateral Line Erosion) i probly could heal better than the way he is by tring to feed it with alot of dry seaweed and some lettuce and other green veggies
hope he gets better;)
