lawnmower blenny

what is the normal food source for a lawnmower blenny? i had 1 die 8 months ago that seemed to be picking off ofthe rocks ok and eating some formula 1 flake. he lasted about one month in my tank. i was wondering if he was starved. his tankmates were a purple tang, sixline wrasse, GS maroon clown, marine beta, lyretail anthias, and a CB angel. i bought another one four weeks ago and again it seems to be picking off of the rocks ok but not eating any formula 1 flake. i dont know if they eat pods for i have plenty. will the new blenny be ok or is my tank too aggressive? if so i do have a 30g hex with only one false perc clown. thanks for any help.

i have one i got him probably 6 months ago for a hair algae problem i was having, of course with all the plentiful algae i had in my tank he was fat as could be, however since the algae has cleared up he has lost weight..he too picks at the live rock as you described, they need alot of algae in their diet.

are you adding any algae sheets or veggies for your purple tang? if so hopefully he will adjust to eating it as mine has. I used to wrap some around a small rock or something and put in his area to entice him to eat the algae sheets but now he eats off of the same veggie clip as my tangs. . you could even try some pellets but IME I havent noticed mine going for them. hope this helps
