Leads on a fish trap in Rochester area?

I ran to CF this afternoon as I had to grab a few things including a fish trap but they didn't have any on hand to rent or buy. Anyone have any leads on one? Much appreciated if so... :)

(Kat, Liberation was purchased and is being shipped to NH. ;) )

uh oh...fish trap...mischief last night?

(I am very happy about Liberation, Mel....remember to tell her if it is near a black lite, the lantern will glow as well as the reflection in the water.)

Fish trap lead obtained! ;)

Will let her know Kat. Fish trap needed because apparently after so many years with me the Atlantic Blue is wise to my technique. Grrr...

Trying to catch a very, very fast and wise >5" Atlantic Blue Tang and with feeling under the weather, am hoping my hand/eye/brain coordination is good enough for successful use of a pre-made trap. Tempted to stop at Wally World and grab a fishing pole & barbless hooks though just in case... lol

Plastic bag trick works like a charm. I've tried all the other prefab traps, bottles, etc... Nothing works as quickly, for me, as the large clear plastic bag.

So with the clear plastic bag do you turn off all flow, put food inside and then how do you quickly shut 'em in?

poke holes in periphery of bag's opening. CLEAR Zip locks work well as opening has rigid surface that can be folded over, and will stay open. Belt loop fishing line around the opening. Tie a slip knot in the line. Test it. Give it a quick tug and make sure it sucks shut quickly.

Turning off flow will help you. Place a small piece of LR in there or anchor it in an opening in rocks. Put favorite food of perp in bag. Sit still with string in hand. Be prepared to watch every fish you are not trying to catch swim in and out of bag. Sooner or later fish you want WILL go in for food. When he does, yank the line. Presto, fish in a bag.

I've had to do this twice. I tried for literally WEEKS to catch a pygmy angel. Tried this method. Had em in the sump within 10 minutes, no exaggeration. Did the same with my sailfin, took even less time.

Incidentally, both fish were found innocent of all charges and returned promptly to the general population display tank.

i've used plain wegmans bags w/ or without string. a little patience goes a long way. i try and use a good sized bag, and give them a good sized hole to enter. i calmly reach in and grab the bag, or pull the string when the fish gets stuck in a corner.

Thanks for the descriptions guys! :)

Something tells me I'm going to be having entirely too much fun this evening... muah ha ha ha... In this case though something also tells me the Atlantic Blue may not be returned to the general population. No ifs, ands or buts... he's guilty of trying to rip my new Regal Angel apart. And this isn't his first offense either...

You guys are too funny... lol

Fish trap was def too small for Blue. Waiting on some fishing line and I'm going to try the clear bag trick out tonight. If that doesn't work? Gathering totes together and draining the display tomorrow. Must remain smarter than the fish... be one with the fish line... fish in bag.

Mel , I got lots of fishin line and can even make you a trap if you want. Give me a call if you want to swing by and grab it..

That's not the "can do" attitude that's gonna make this thing work :(

Lmao Mark! :lmao:

I've got a fever, the sniffles, a scratchy throat aaaannndd a backup plan. Henry just gave me some more coaching on the bag trick so my confidence level has increased another notch. Just waiting on arrival of the fishing line here and I'm gonna give it a go.

*I'll even post when I'm getting ready to set it up so y'all can time me. :D
