leaf fish tank

The fish in question is a nice little Ablabys taenianotus. A. macaranthus is differentiated by the first dorsal spine beginning in front of the fish's eye. As you can see in your specimen, the first spine starts well behind the eye.

That is what I was thinking too. Just got it home now and acclimating to water temp to go in QT. I'll get pics when all that is done.

Here is my new guy.....or gal

I noticed once in QT the white spot on the nose area. Is this from a bump from being netted and transported?

I know I've seen Greg mention it happens from shipping pretty frequently with scorps.

As long as the fish is eating and it doesn't appear to be infected I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Many waspfish have white faces as part of their coloration. This is the same fish as a newby and after it colored-up:

Note how the white marking on its snout appeared:

That looks basically identical to what mine did. Glad to hear it is part of the normal color process.

I added the sailfin wasp into the leaf tank today. Seems like they will make a happy family.

Perched?! Ha. In QT he was always on the move, though there wasn't any rock to perch on only hiding spots. That may change now that there is rock work in a tank with it.

Ok, that's cool. I'm thinking about setting up a 30g that I can move the Leaf to and get some wasps or smaller scorps.
