leaking gate valve

Hey guys, my pond is losing water daily through a leaking gate valve. The water is coming out from just below the red handle. Any ideas on how to fix without replacing the valve?

The top half unscrews replace just that part
If the body is leaking replace complete valve

My friend, Walter (WallysWorld) fixed one for me that was leaking. I don't recall if he replaced anything, or just just made some internal adjustments. I'll contact him and ask him to respond here.

I would just replace, I tried to fix on my pond and made things worse on a Sunday with everything closed and 90deg summer

Thanks guys, So far it seems to stop leaking with detritus but when I closed the valve for water changes then open it up it leaks again. So for now it not too bad but i do need to find a solution...
