Least-aggressive clownfish?

I have a GSM in a 125 and she gets along with her tank mates just fine. Get too close to her "home" and she'll bite you.

I have a pair of tomatoes in a 210 and the female has bit me more than I care to mention. But she does not chase or bully any other fish in the tank.

I also have a pair of percs in a different 125, and they are so peaceful. Get along with everyone and doesn't bite me.

Now I'm rethinking things...I really DO want GSMs, they are just too beautiful, but probably not a good idea in my 75G .... I have an empty 110 that was going to be for SPS at some point, but I might set that up just for the GSMs.

Still undecided at this point, but if I go ahead, the GSMs better appreciate it, a whole tank to themselves & their nem!

My nieces & nephews are fascinated by my fish, and I look forward to seeing them yell "It's NEMO!"....they won't know it's the wrong species :)

You can have the sps and clowns in the same tank, specially if it's a 110. I really like the Maroons. I wanted the white strip though. I've heard lots of success stories with TB rather than WC marroons. Not sure if they have TB GSM's though.

IME nigripes absolubt wimps

Ask Scott how Cujo jumped out of the tank trying to bite him. Or ask me how my gripes used to kick a pair of gasters from their haddoni. Gripes are not wimps :) They are up there with the caps in terms of nasty personality.

No doubt.

Was it Dan that had a video of his gripes latching onto his hand and holding on right out of the water?

TB--i got mine paired as TB. there is a guy in knoxville who started breeding about two years ago i think...we found him at the nashville swap meet. he had GREAT fish, and i really liked that they were in his tank this morning, and my tank tonight. they came paired (big deal with GSMs) and they were VERY reasonable. VERY :)

coincidentally, the nashville frag swap is the 19th of january...if i see him there again, i'll get you his info--falls church isn't 'close' but its not too bad from knoxville, especially if he goes to a swap in central va.

we paid $60 for a b&w pair and $30 for a gsm pair. i doubt he's still charging that though. very healthy (the two pairs we have) and we are very pleased.

i still maintain that keeping them well fed and occupied is the key to longer term success.

i have a Ocellaris and a maroon that hang out all the time. if there not in my GBTA then there in my LTA. but recently the maroon has disappeared (lion fish got em) and now my Ocellaris is really confused. he hosts in a elephant ear mushroom colony and a frogspawn. lol

You HAVE to post that video!

So I got a nice, healthy purple LTA, and after 12 days, it decided to settle and attach. So it's decision time....

A pair of pink skunks or a pair of naked false perculas?

Despite my best efforts, I have Dictyota algae growing in the tank, so somewhere along the line, I'll probably have to get a small Naso tang to take care of it.

Which pair would you pick...and should I add the tang or the clownfish first?

Thx for any advice,

I personally would go with a pink skunk (A. perideraion) since LTA's and pink skunks are natural symbionts. I like to see a natural host and clown together and I think generally the clowns take to them more readily.

Pictures will be my vote.

Thanks Gary, though I did have to get rid of the Purple LTA, it just wasn't happy with me after I redid the tank. Got really tired of having to "replant" it all the time, and I tried everything to get it to stay put. I currently have a mauve-ish one in there that seems to be pretty happy. The skunks are doing great and the male is starting to clean a spot, hoping they will finally start laying eggs in the near future.

Well, hopefully the new LTA will make the skunks a happy home like the one in the pic. I had an LTA for a long time and found that the thing that worked best was a sealed PVC pipe about 6 inches deep w aragonite in it. It never wandered once it was in there, but the PVC pipe had to be sealed at the bottom w an endpiece of PVC that I siliconed to the pipe. If it could attach to the bottom of the tank through the PVC pipe, it would move around.

Oh wow, that is very interesting. If the new one gives me troubles, I will keep that in mind, thanks.

What kills me about the old ( purple ) one is that I could see it attached to the underside of the tank, and would be "happy" for a month, and then release -- with no changes to the tank.

Yeah, mine did that too. Then when I stumbled on the sealed PVC, no more wandering. I expect there might be PVC pipes that have a PVC cap that screws on, but I just bought an end piece and glued it.

Don't tell me that.

I thought that once settled, LTAs would stay in place.

Who wants to buy a nice purple LTA for cheap?

Some do, some don't.

Our tanks are always changing, bulbs age, critters grow changing flow rates and chemical balance, pests come and go, etc.

Anemones have fairly simple sensors, they get to pick the times and manner, triggering a relocation.

Mine tend to wander in a tight circle over the year, under a point light source and surrounded by less preferential circulation.
