Leather coral w/ necrotic base (flatworms)

I've got a leather coral whose base is suffering. Interestingly, the crown seems to be rather lively, its polyps often in full bloom.

On the base is an infestation of flatworms and some algae growth. Looks very unhealthy.

Would it be best to excise the necrotic area?

If the infection is bad you should just frag the leather and toss the base. BTW, if you have flatworms in your tank it probably will return to your frags even if you toss the base away. you need to do some serious hunt for them. They are like cockroaches, if you see 1, there are 10 somewhere.

Thanks; I've cut the top off, and am keeping the base just to see if it improves.

Flatworms are an ongoing battle...
