Welcome to the 'hood. I moved up to NYC from South FL, where I used to have a big 120g SPS tank. Finally set up my tank in NYC back in November (a nano). There's a huge community here with tons of experienced hobbyists and researchers. It's almost as good as the FL group, though FMAS was always a bit more active than I've seen here so far.

Good luck with the move and with NYC. Clubwise, there is the Brooklyn Aquarium Society (both FW and SW), NY Reef Club in the NYC, Brooklyn/Queens area. A bit of drive from NYC, but worth checking out when you get settled in is the Long Island Aquarium (formerly Atlantis Marine World) with a 20,000 gallon reef tank.
