LED Help Rebuilding old maxspect pods

Ok, so here goes. I have over time replaced a majority of my maxspect pods in my razors. I now have approximately 10 or so old pods or light clusters, that have the Epileds Dual core 1100 @1300ma super actinic 410-430 burnt.

I know you can by the upgrade kit but why not repair.

I have the facility and tools to rebuild these clusters, but need to find the LED chip. Any help would be great thanks.

I have jumped the chips with the led removed and it works, but why not rebuild them.
 
Are they in a string with any other LEDs? Are you intending to run them on constant current drivers? No idea whether you can buy straight replacements, but if running on constant current drivers, there should be a few options for swapping for another LED around the same wavelength :)

Because one can't find replacement chips..
finding the orig. is probably close to impossible.

Finding an alternate in the same footprint is also probably impossible..

Now if one can modify the trace to fit something else.. well then you got something.

Sorry a lot of speculation here..
I do vaguely remember some Japanese supplier that at one time had some custom violets for this BUT working off a very old memory. Could apply to a different dual chip BUT not likely..

Thanks, i am going to have to do some calcs and measure out the current LED and try and find a replacement with a similar foot print. Once the old LED is removed its very simple install, if i had a LED chip that is.
 
Looks like they mounted the chips on a star board for a Nichia sm6550.

That should give you an indication of the spacing since the chip should be 6.5 x 5.0mm
so guessing about the pad of a smd5050. Now if one can find a high power version..

CREE mmay be too big, unless you extend the pad out??? Just guessing here and subject to a poor interpretation of the stats..

Well no matter...
Keep in mind finding a single diode that can take the orig. current is going to be problematic as well. The dual chip "current shared" AFAICT so only 750mA per side..
Need to find a chip that can take 1500mA...
Or whatever it was ..

Certainly didn't make it easy.

Had to recheck.. (this is my week of screw ups btw).
You have 2.6A of current between the pads (1.3A per each diode in the dual diode chip) of the violets.. making a replacement pretty darn difficult..

Looks like the easiest route is just to jumper across the dead diodes..or change the driver...

I contacted Epileds direct and this is what they came up with. I believe it may be the new LED that is in the 15000K razors. Thanks for the info oreo57

Epileds is a LED die manufacturer and we are able to offer certain types LED packages as well.
In relation to your inquiry, I guess what you need is a LED package instead of LED die.
We have 4 in 1 5050 ceramic package where it is 4 series connection inside. The example and dimension follow as below charts.
You may apply 350mA to 700mA for this package. More over the LED chip will be BN-U4545R-A3 as enclosed. Please feel free to have a further discussion.
 
Well you will burn them at 2.X amps..
I suspect the voltage of that chip package is too high for the driver btw..4 series chips are usually around 12V-ish min V(f)

You need a unit w/ parallel chips to divide the current..not series.

The CREE XLamp MK‑R seemingly has the correct electrical characteristics (no UV type though) and "may" (w/ a big "maybe") be fittable..
5.3mm outside edge of anode to outside edge of cathode AFAICT.
6v version..

thanks oreo57, I may be better off building my own chip with cree LED to match the 15000k razors. Only issue is alot of places only sell them by qty 1000 lol

They are sold "loose". Of course they are white and these are 12V....
Probably need the 6V ones..
Those are also available at flea bay.. but having browser/eek bay issues at the moment.

Actually I have been forgetting key element.. What is the size of the power supply in volts?
I suspect 12V which would make the 12V chips better.

this may be the best choice. It will fit on existing pad and can take 1500ma to bad its not all blue

Just curious... Were you able to find an alternative that works to replace these EpiLed Dual Core 410-420nm 1300mA SMDs?


I am trying to fix my old Maxspect R420R 16,000K unit too and Coral Vue doesn't have any replacement pucks available in stock and not sure if they will restock.
 
I know this is old thread but I was able to repair all three of my Razors Epiled dual cores LED (9 LED broads in total) with these LED from aliexpress. They are a bit smaller (5050) compared to original maxspect Epileds but they work.

Epileds-5050-5w-420nm-High-Power-Led-Emitter-2-Chip
Voltage :3.8-4.2v
Current: 350mA-1200mA


The repair was done over 2 years ago and still working
