led lights

I never tried the larger Led but I have the evo quad clamp Led on a 7.5 gallon Mr aqua and I don't like the color they produce. The whites are very yellow and the ratio of white and blue is not ideal. I didn't really get good growth so I have decided to replace it. With the low cost of some full spectrum Led's I would advise at looking elsewhere but that's just my 2 cents.

For a 46 bow you could go the Reef Breeders Value route. 2 would be enough for good coverage. It would cost about the same but is full-spectrum and is higher power.
The light you linked to is not running all the leds at 3w; more like 1-2w.

asid61 is right on if you really want to go the Led route otherwise I would search for a used ATI or Tek fixture if you want T5's. With a lot of people jumping on the Led's you can find great deals on quality used fixtures.

Yeah, I'm a little confused on this LED subject as well. I see fixtures for $500 for one fixture. Are these really that much different than what came with my tank? I would imagine they have to be, but in a way that my stuff won't grow "as well" or "at all"?

I don't want to write a huge thing right now, but figure you need around 50 3w leds over your tank. The reason some fixtures cost more is because they use better leds, like Crees or Luxeons. The Cree and Luxeon leds tend to get around 30% more light output than leds with no name attached to them.
What came with the tank? Probably not 3w leds.

asid, lets at least try to be honest here. The reason some cost more is because they have a reputation for quality and brand recognition, so they can charge more and get it, not because they use better parts. And some offer lots of bells and whistles with their lights. The better parts add 5% to the total cost of a fixture. Some of the bells and whistles can add quite a bit to the cost (built-in controllers, the ability to run off a reef controller, having 5 channels rather than 2. But better leds is a minuscule percentage of the overall cost. A $320 Photon 16 is only going to cost $25 more if they switched to the better leds.

yea i was at my lfs and he has several led fixtures and he recommended the razor led fixture...there kinda expensive at around 500 dollars...but they look great...

You can get cheap China leds for $1-2, versus at least $3 for XT-E. So it would cost considerably more.

But yes, you are right on that. A big portion comes from the name.

Cool, Thanks. Seems pretty good priced...still a lot of money but I need the upgrade pretty bad from my .11w LED lights that came with it lol

ok so how did my thread get hijacked.....lol....would this light work for my 46 gallon bow....i want good coverage on sides too...not just the middle.....

Photon 32. It's long enough for coverage, but doesn't cost too much. A pair of Reef Breeders Values or Evergrow D120s would do fine as well if you don't need the control.
