LED Module Comparison - ReefBrite / Illumilux / TrueLumen Pro

so none of these 3 offer better benefits than old 15 yr old technology VHO's? kinda shocked to hear that.. all i really want is mainly better color and more par for my corals and sps really didnt think vho's where still the best to use..

Hi Jeremy, I'm trying to light a FOWLR 72" x 24" x 30" (may add softies some day). I decided to go with 72" Reef Brite, but not sure which route I should go.

Option 1: 2 x 72" regular Tech, 50/50
Option 2: 1 x 72" XHO, 50/50

These will likely be mounted in a 12" tall canopy, so the light will be hung around 10" above the top of the tank. Do you think 1 x 72" XHO, in the middle of the tank, will give enough light spread at 10" above the tank? or should I go with 2 x 72" Tech, one mounted in the front and the other mounted in the back?

Hi Jeremy,

How many of the Reefbrite Blues would I need to run a 240 gallon cube (4' L x 4' W x 2' H)? Using these as supplemental lighting for a dusk dawn effect.

@alex28- The all white would Tech would be your best bet for shimmer, while the all white XHO would be the best for PAR.

@Toomnymods- In my opinion VHO's will produce the best coloration and health of corals. Just my opinion though. However, for viewing pleasure, blue LED's will fluoresce the corals the best.

@sandwi54- I would 2 x 72" 50/50 Tech's. The XHO will give you more light output in a more narrow band that is underneath the module, but the 2 x Tech's will give you better par in a more broad range of area. I hope this makes sense.

@Macropora- You could get by with 2 x 48" XHO's for a 4' x 4' footprint if it's just supplemental lighting only.

For a 150 FOWLR that is 72"L x 18"D x 27" high, what would you recommended? I currently have two 36" T5HO. Each with a blue and white bulb.

Current USA recommends two 36" True Lumen Pro Marine Fusion LED. However, I contacted you guys via chat and you recommended two Reef Brite 72in LED Strip Light - BLUE/WHITE (not the XHO) or two to three rows of TruLumen if I went with those.

I am looking for better light than I currently have with the two 36" T5s. These two T5s sit on top of the tank (so around 1" above). I do have a glass canopy too.

For the LED, I do not want to hang from the canopy since I open and close it all the time and just want to sit on the tank. Either right on the glass or prop them up an inch or two.

From a price perspective, one Reef Brite 72in LED Strip Light - BLUE/WHITE is comparable to two 36" TrueLumen (plus transformer and splitter). So two rows of the TrueLumen would be comparable to two Reef Brite.

Thanks,

Mike

hey jeremy i have actually bought 2 reefbrites for a 90 gal that is 22 inches deep..and i hang them 6 inch's and they are both attached to a tek elite fixture..Im not a fan of the 50/50 which is the 3 foot fixture, and the all blue is the 4 footer which fits on the front of my tek..my question is this.
Can i get a ati powermodule and do this same thing? and would having two all blues be ok? i just dont like the white leds in these as they seem to be more yellowish..and if so is 4 blue+ a ge starcoat 65k, and a ati purple+. a good combo? or would a ab special be better in place of the starcoat? thanks

Sorry also ive had these fixtures now for about 4 months and still uncertain of how high i need them to hang, and how long can i run them? and is there a way to swap out their power source to make them dimmable? i know thats alot of questions but considering imma sell a 4 month old tek, to get a powermodule and get another 4 foot led all blue..thats about 1500ish in a few months for lights..thanks again

XHO or Illumilux

XHO or Illumilux

Greetings Jeremy!!! 1 Question before I order from you guys... I currently run 4 T-5's (3 blue pluses and 1 purple plus) along with 2 250w 14K Phoenix bulbs. I want more blue supplementation... I have a 60 inch tank. Which would suit me better or make a more considerable difference the 60" ReefBrite XHO or the 48" vertex Illumilux??? Just waiting on your response before I make my purchase from you... Thanks!!!!

The XHO's will give you more blue than what the Illumilux will, however the Illumilux will provide a much better shimmer over the XHO. If you just want blue only the I'd say go for the XHO strip.

I am getting a Reefbrite 48in XHO 50/50. I was wondering how the color looks
before I order. I have a 6bulb T5 setup right now. My goal with the added
XHO 50/50 is color and shimmer. But if the 50/50 reefbrite XHO is too yellow
I would go with a full blue. So can anyone who owns a 50/50 let me now the
over all color. thank

If it's both color and shimmer you're after then the 50/50 woudl be the way to go. You can always go back and change around the configuration of the T5's to compensate for any color that you want to see after adding in the RB.

I got the ReefBrite 50/50 XHO from you guys, You are correct, Looks great, Nice shimmer and pop. I have it in front of my 6 ATI T5's. I Also got the matching RB legs so I did not need to attach it anywhere. NICE. Made everything much more vivid. What would you say a RB XHO 50/50 equals to in the number of T5 bulbs as far as par? Thanks again....

LED Strip for IM Nuvo 16

LED Strip for IM Nuvo 16

I have an IM Nuvo 16 with stock 8w fixtures. I was really liking the idea of adding a low profile strip that could just lay on the glass top/rim. Is this a bad idea? Will one fixture give enough spread being that close to the water surface (2")? I have all LPS and soft corals.

Will this be for supplementation purposes only, or?

I would keep the stock lights. I was thinking that the strip could sit over the front 1/3 of the tank and not cause much of a shadow with the 8w fixtures. They are centered front to back.

Sorry for not being more clear - I would like to supplement the existing lights to improve growth rate of the LPS and soft corals.

I have a 72x30x25 FO tank that I am looking to get some LED's for. What do you recommend? They will be mounted in a canopy.
