LED's for Actinic Supplementation

Has anyone found a good way to go about achieving actinic supplementation with LED's. I'm not talking about the low-grade moonlight effect. I mean, LED's that I can use in conjunction with 10K halides and achieve a nice deep blue color as if I were using a 15 or 20K bulb. I was thinking about purchasing one of ice caps new LED strips that are made to look like a T5 bulb, but i'm just not sure if it will be enough to take on the full responsibility of an actinic fixture.

I had some luck with the 256 led 'grow lights' that you can find on ebay fairly cheap. They arn't completly overpowered but the 2 NEPs over that side of my tank.

I just ordered a bunch of 21 LED spotlights out of curiosity... see how those work.

Try using a Panorama 453nm strip from Ecoxotic. I use one to achieve the dawn to dusk effect with my PAR38's.

Interesting...thanks. I'm still leaning a bit towards the icecap strip, mostly because I just like icecap. I don't know if they are powerful enough to call them actinic supplementation though.

Keep in mind, the LED options are good but they really aren't in the 'actinic' range if you are comparing them to fuorescent lamps or the actinic 'end' of MH's. If you look at a spectral plot of an actinic lamp you'll see a pronouned peak around 420nm. Royal Blue LED's have their peak around 450-460nm and blue at around 460-470nm. Just so you know.

Icecap LEDs where not designed for actinic supplementation, they are moonlights.

The ecoexotic stunner or panorama LEDs will give you a nice actinic supplementation.

you basically need high powered LEDs to make it work.

I have 2 reefbrite 48"LEDs in my coralife fixture, I replaced the CFs with them. The reefbrites are very nice, give off great color. I also use CoralVue LEDs, I have replaced all florescent lighting with LEDs in all my setups. I also have the Icecap LEDs, good for moon lighting, but not as daylight supplement.
