Time for an update.
I sold all my noob gear and moved on to something a little bit more serious. Recently acquired an exotic Nikon 200 f/2 VR! This thing is so huge that I use its lens hood to store my other primes:
Just the hood itself sells for $850, so I'm careful not to lose it.
I was having a hard time locating a lens cap for it. Fortunately, one of my protein shake lid fits perfectly!
Occasionally, my daughter shoots with it. Here she is chimping on the D4 LCD!
"Did I get the shot??" why of course you did dear.... it's not a Canon ya know?
I also added a few primes: 24 1.4G and 85 1.4 to complete the bokehlicious factory!
Last year while shooting landscapes at the Columbia River Gorge, I fell in the ravine and smashed my D800 and 16-35. Snapped the Gitzo too! I tossed it and bought a D800E!
I tried to simplify my kit so now I'm down to D800E and D600. Sold the D4 and bought more lenses. The new 18-35G is fantastic and it replaced my 16-35 f/4. I'm keeping the amazing 24-70 2.8 because I also shoot weddings from time to time. I have no 70-200 because the 200 f/2 just destroys it in IQ, so I don't see the point of owning that lens anymore.
On the primes, I have the 28 1.8G, 85 1.4G and 200 f/2. I got rid of the 24 1.4G because it was wildly inconsistent. I'm planning to get the new 58 1.4G. This is my current kit:
