Leonardo's Formosa Forest 2

Plumbing will be minimal and kept very clean (inside the overflow). Return plumbing will hide the wires of the Tunzes. Basically the same way as the first FF and Ching did with his new tank.

Nice to see you posting again Leonardo, hope your school tests went well (assuming that they're finished for now).

Thanks Dan. The first went really well, thank you :) I'm not finished yet, I have to do another three and the next day on the plane to China. This will be another very busy week.

Good luck on the tests Leonardo. What are you planning on doing in China? Where are you visiting?

You are going extreme, good luck with you new venture. Why not make place for some waveboxes, they move quite alot of water.

Thanks Dan. I will travel for a month from Hong Kong, Changsha, Wuhan to Shanghai. 1500 miles by train.
I will combine the new with the old China, traveling alone, with one friend of mine. Of course I will use this trip to see as much reef stores and visit reef aquarists.
I hope I can make this travel because last week the cruciate ligament of my right knee got bad again. I hope I can recover enough this week.

Thanks Zaheda. I already have one wavebox, but I'm afraid to use it because it not recommended to use it on a rimless tank.
Instead I just use the 6201 stream that's in it as a flow pump.

Carlos, I gradually building up the light scheme. So far I haven't seen any bleaching or lighting in color.
LPS can handle a lot of light, if you acclimate them slowly. I kept Favia and Favites 10" under the surface with a 400 watter above it. Important is to go slow and keep the corals and their zooxanthellae well fed.

One of the main goals for this tank is to grow SPS on every inch of the tank, because when the branches grow, they still have to receive enough light to keep growing and branching. To spread the light as much as possible while maintaining intensity has always been one of my goals and I'm feeling the three SunPower fixtures can achieve that more then the 400 Watters in Lumenarcs.

I'm sure I may have went a little too fast with acclimating corals in my system; but all is well for now. Unfortunately, in the next few weeks I have to move my system so we'll see if that has an ill effect on anything. BUT that does give me a chance to redo some things :lmao:. Maybe even tryout this thing called "patience"

Like you, I would like to grow corals in all places and I feel the ATI unit can achieve that with the par output and light spread.

Well, have a good trip and take some pictures lol!

Leo, have fun in China! Keep us updated with pics on FB ;)

When you get back, follow your fellow countrymens (Jochem) lead with all those gorgeous Pomacanthidae! (No, I will never let up :p)

Also, IMO you would be fine running your Tumze WB. There are plenty run on rimless tanks, Tunze states that to cover their ace.

Hi Leo,

It was nice meeting you last night, as you see i have found your topic on RC:thumbsup:. It's even better that i have hoped for. This is one to keep following. Can you tell me what T5 lamps you are using? I realy like the blue-ish collor.

Ik hope the formosa arrived at your house in one piece? I can't imagin a better home for it and i'm looking forward of seeing picures of it in your tank.

Its too bad that you saw my tank in such a state as it was last night, i will try too find a picture as it was a few weeks ago:eek:

Hope seeing you again!

Jochem

[edit]

Even better, i've found a small movie of my tank

Love the big GSP island and back wall - probably one of my favorite usages of coral. Great looking tank.

Leonardo, do you miss the shimmer effect of the metal halides or do the T5's have better color effects that outweigh this?

Thanks guys :) Ill try to keep you updated on Facebook and my Blog.

Ricky, the T5 provide a better spread of the light, and a better coloration of the whole colony.
I do miss the shimmer but the T5's have more pro's than con's at the moment. I will supplement them with PAR-38 LED later on.

Austin, maybe I'll try the wave box although I like the flow the stream pump gives me now :)

You find a lot more if you do a RC seach :)
