Leonardo's Formosa Forest 2

Thanks Baros, Andrew. You're right, I'm determined to create this project and in the end this setback will be a drop in the ocean ;)

I'm sorry to hear about the minicrash, I hope the rest of the corals will make it. Any updates on the cryptic fuge design?

I just noticed that your on RK staff, congrats!

That's the attitute Leonardo  We're all pulling for you man and +1 on becoming RK staff.

Leonardo, it's looking phenomenal. I've been thinking I want to move to a tank more like this. I can see it in my heard now.

Congrats are in order on becoming staff member, must be a nice feeling ;) i,as flying dutchman mentioned, would also like to know is there any updates on cryptic fuge design

Thanks guys! I'll post some design drawings I made for the ""BeeHive CR" on my website within a few days. Will do it asap but i'm very busy now studying and making exams, and I have to finish the drawings first.

Just found your post in the show me your cube thread.
Outstanding build Leonardo keep up the good work. The balling
method is something I might consider I dose manually from randys
recipe. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Justin, I think that post was from the old cube :) Building a bigger one now :hammer:

Thank you Joost, I'll try to get it online soon :)

It is a definte boost to see that you plan on running this system all T5. I use the ATI SP as well and I’m impressed (very); but I did not know that these fixtures were overdriven. < Thank you for that!

With 12 T5 bulbs do you plan on doing a “more” nautral lighting cycle? I feel you can replicate the sun throughout the day very effectively with the angle of the fixtures and the bulb control you have with the 3 lights. I'm interested to see how the corals react to a like nature lighting scheme if you plan on doing so.

Nice work!

Thanks Mr. Right! I will use 14 T5 39 watt. 50% Blue+, 50% AquaBlue Special.
The lightcycle will build up in steps. 4/6/10/14 and back at night. Whiter during the day and bluer in the morning and evening.

Joost, I won't go to interzoo because I just too busy planning the trip to China, finishing my tank and study.
I hope I'm able to show some updated pictures before I'll leave.

Things are looking good Leonardo. One question, are you planning to keep the rear glass pane see-through or are you planning to add a plain blue background or something? Just curious.

Hi Leo,

It was nice meeting you last night, as you see i have found your topic on RC:thumbsup:. It's even better that i have hoped for. This is one to keep following. Can you tell me what T5 lamps you are using? I realy like the blue-ish collor.

Ik hope the formosa arrived at your house in one piece? I can't imagin a better home for it and i'm looking forward of seeing picures of it in your tank.

Its too bad that you saw my tank in such a state as it was last night, i will try too find a picture as it was a few weeks ago:eek:

Hope seeing you again!

Jochem

Thanks Greg! Like most Japanese tanks, I will keep the back pane clear. But maybe I'll ad a black or blue one later on, if that is an improvement ;)

Thanks Jochem, the Formosa made it in one piece. Good to have it replaced cause I lost a lot of it during the move a few weeks ago.
I use ATI lamps. 7 Blue+ and 7 AquaBlue Special. I chose for ATI because they're inexpensive (more often replaceable ;) ) and have the highest PAR values.
Very impressive tank you had! Good luck with the setting up the business and we'll see each other soon.

You're welcome. 14 bulbs Wow! I'm very jealous of your options and control you'll with that many bulbs. Do you think that the par with that many bulbs will be an issue will LPS or low-light SPS? Have you seeing any bleaching (other than the initial bleaching or casualties) in your corals? I know some of my LPS and even a few SPS were not thrilled about the increase par from this fixture. I'm still trying to accommodate some corals. I must say it is very nice when you have no limit on coral placement. I look forward to seeing this setup progress. Best of luck.

Carlos, I gradually building up the light scheme. So far I haven't seen any bleaching or lighting in color.
LPS can handle a lot of light, if you acclimate them slowly. I kept Favia and Favites 10" under the surface with a 400 watter above it. Important is to go slow and keep the corals and their zooxanthellae well fed.

One of the main goals for this tank is to grow SPS on every inch of the tank, because when the branches grow, they still have to receive enough light to keep growing and branching. To spread the light as much as possible while maintaining intensity has always been one of my goals and I'm feeling the three SunPower fixtures can achieve that more then the 400 Watters in Lumenarcs.

How is this done without seeing the equipment? Does the plumbing have to take up a corner?
