Emster, a venturi skimmer processes much more water and air with the same pump+needlewheel. Because I skim wet, this is an advantage for me. Needlewheels are more appropriate for drier skimming IMO. I get a lot out of my skimmer, about 1 gallon of tea-coloured skimmate per week.
Dave Dunbar, I do have some coralline growth, but only when my water needs some polishing

Normally, with good waterchanges, a good working skimmer and fresh GFO and GAC, I don't have a lot of coralline growth. It just survives and not grow. My guess is that it needs some nutriets to grow well.
I clean the front windows every few days, so coralline have no chance on there, and I scrape off the back every 2 weeks with razor blade. Regular cleaning will prevent the growth
