Thanks Gary!
Thanks jmarti705 and DubDub!
Haha, I'm not a biochemist, I studied for Teacher in Biology. After that I studied for Real Estate Broker and next year I will start with Marine Biology at the University of Amsterdam.
When you rely on the skimmer as main export mechanism not much liverock is needed because the proteins will be skimmed out before they will become nitrite and nitrate.
Some nitrification always occur, therefore I installed a Remote DSB. That will process that small amount of nitrate.
Because a BB-tank immediately reacts to changes you make, you know almost immediately know the effects of your husbandry.
I started with a very small amount of Vodka/Sugar and gradually builed it up untill I thought the corals were becoming starved. The I knew the best dosing regimen related to my feeding and export. I cut back the dosing a little and now I have nutrient-poor water AND well fed corals.
I did the same thing for the skimming (wetter/drier) and trace-element addition. Just gradually changes+good observation.
Good documentation of changes you make (amount of ml per day/week, etc.) + carefull observation of the corals will give you the most ideal balance in the aquarium.
