Leonardo's Lagoon

Leonardo

I don't know if I missed it , but was wondering if you are dosing any amino acids and trace elements?

Thanks

Ksed, I don't use any Amino Acids at the moment. Trace elements are dosed according to the Balling-Method.
This means that three element solutions are added to the balling solutions and dosed in the right amount compared to calcification.

Leonardo

thanks for your reply. Are happy so far with the balling method?
Are trace elements only to be used with Balling or can be used with Cal reactor?
Which brand of trace elements are you using at the moment?

Thanks
Kevin

The elements can only be used with balling, they are mixed with the solutions. I use non-brand elements and balling salts. Same composition, less $$
I'm very happy with balling, it gives me much lower phospate levels and more stable parameters.

A few hours ago I came home to see a almost 100% meltdown of the tank.
Somehow the light switch didn't work, leaving my lights ON for two days. This caused the pH to rise so high, that precipitation of calciumcarbonate shut down almost all of my pumps. 3 out of 4 Tunze Streams and the return pump.

This was too much for most of the corals. 25% are already dead, 50% is dying and the rest is severely stressed.

The tunze are now soaking in vinegar but I think they're not fixable. The shaft is unmovable, completely stuck.

I don't now what I will do now, stop or make a restart. I'll keep you posted.

BUMMER Leonardo... very sorry to hear this:(

I've lost a whole tanks worth before and know all to well just how you feel! But, unfortunately that's how things go sometimes in this great ol' hobby of ours.

It still sucks but I'll look forward to seeing you pull through!

Oh my, so sorry to hear this leonardo, especially when I won't see
My own tank for another 10 days...

Totally bummed

oh no!

I know it's disheartening. I am in a total tear down of my 50 gallon right now. But, keep going!

I took this chance to change things I wished I would have done when I set it up originally.

You don't have a controller of some sort? Just a simple timer?

Sorry to heard that, your tank is unique.

:) I was just wondering what the stand is being constructed of? Looks like a great idea though. Cant wait to see more

If you don't have some already get some hydrochloric acid and soak them in that. Lowe's or HD both carry it and possibly a pool supply store.

That precipitate event must have been massive to freeze up 3 powerheads and kill corals. Not cool. I know it's disheartening but i have seen some incredible rebounds from melt-downs.

So sorry to hear you are dealing with this!

I'm so sorry to hear that Leo.... first with the STN and now this?? It's never easy to deal with a meltdown but I agree with Jonathan that I've seen some incredible rebounds and would hope yours are one of them !!

Hang in there Leo....!!

I'm obviously not the only one sharing your pain. Your tanks go beyond hobby-dom into the realm of real life work. Hopefully those of use who are your fans can inspire you not to walk away. As a biology-guy you know the role of forest fires and the opportunities they create for new life. Perhaps this is just one of those moments in time.
