Leonardo's Lagoon

Thanks, the total lighting will be:

2 x 400 Watt (Aqua-Connect 14.000K) 400 Watt MH in Lumenarcs, Lumatek Electronic Ballasts
4 x 80 Watt T5 HO (ATI Blue+ and ATI Actinic)
4 x 24 Watt T5 HO (ATI Blue+ and ATI AquablueSpecial)

2 Spotlight 70 Watt MH (6500 K), Osram Electronic Ballasts

With this lighting I will have optimal lightspread and coverage + a good composition of different spectrums.

Thanks for the welcome Clownreef! :)

Brandan, I agree, this thread needs more updates and more pictures... It is difficult to make progress between study and work, but things are getting more and more finished. I'll promise to post some pictures within a few days.

Today I finished the customisation of the Ca Reactor. I have a Schuran Jetstream II Reactor. I By-passed it with a large vessel.

I did this to increase the reaction time, allowing the CO2 to dissolve better. This way I prevent CO2 from flowing into the tank causing a possible pH-drop and Algae problems.

I used a 28" high, 35 Gallon vessel. I made a bypass in the closed loop of the reactor. The pictures clarify it a bit more. :)

I made the cut for the bypass right before the water returns to the pump.
(Calcium Media Cartridge is taken out at the moment, a feature of the Jetstream Ca-reactor)

Her you see the construction from the left side. The whole vessel+frontplate will fit in my cabinet :)

Inside the Vessel I designed the plumbing this way; Water flows in through the pipe aimed to the bottom. This way I'll prevent build up of detritus inside the vessel.
Water flows out through the pipe above, creating a good flow through the whole vessel.

In the lid I created a vent to allow accumulating gasses to be automatically redirected to the pump- and reactor.

Hope my explanation is clear, if not feel free to ask :)

Thank you very much Nick! :) The capacity of the reactor with this modification is almost endless.

Picture for size reference:

wow, those big thick tabling Acros will thank you, how much media do you plan to use? What kind of media are you using?

The media is only placed in the reactorchamber. The vessel is only for watervolume.
I use large pieces of crushed coral because it desolves better then Hydrocarbonate (from AquaMedic) It will save me some CO2 and I get a higher Alk. with this media.
Another advantage is the size. I won't loose a lot of flow with this media because the pieces are so big. Of course I have a smaller surface area compared to smaller media, but the large Reactor volume makes up for that.

I soaked the media in RO/DI water for 4 months (replacing the water every two weeks), to soak out some of the PO4 and other unwanted chemicals.
The effluent will be filtered through GFO to minimise PO4, coming out of the media, ending up in the tank.

This will be filled to the top with large pieces of crushed coral.

My always growing Montipora Confusa. Not the best picture I made, but wanted to show a coral in this thread ;)

Uhuru, Thanks! :) Nice to see you around again.

An FTS?? I haven't even installed the Calciumreactor  Seriously, the tank isn't showable yet. I randomly placed the corals from the Formosa Forest on the bottom. First I have to buy some nice big pieces of cured LR and aquascape a bit. After that I will make an FTS :)

Brandan, this is only a part of the Confusa. The whole colony is 8" in diameter right now. It will have all the room in this tank to form a Confusa-Labyrinth for the Apogons ;)

I don't know about all all that, I think we need to see a FTS now, that way when we see it later fixed up we appreciate it more, besides when it comes to pics the more the merrier and we always enjoy seeing the whole process of the build. :)

come on leo.... dont tease us by saying there is water in the tank.... not cool man... seriously... haha

Lets see some Pics!!!!
