Leonardo's Lagoon

Do you test for potassium Leo? Params seem close to NSW, even the dKH but would be interesting to see what K level it has??

What's the difference between Bi--Active and their TMPro version?

Thanks for your suggestions. Honestly, i didn't even know that this salt has the attributes of Reef-Actif, well somehow i didn't get it:)
I usually do 10% water change/week. I still have a one month supply of my old salt so i have some time to decide.
I thought that one could use the salt and add just a bit of Reef-Actif to be able to do only 10% water change.

Ed; I don't have a Potassium testkit. A local reefer did the test for me and came out at 380 for potassium (KZ). Also close to NSW :)

Brian; here in Europe for about € 94,- so that would make it $ 135,- I think the import and shipping will make it even a bit more expensive.

Peter; The brochure suggest to sustain the bio-active ingredients by adding Reef-Actif between waterchanges. Therefore I think this salt contains the same bio-polymers ;)
Adding additional Reef-Actif with smaller waterchanges would also work, like you suggested.

Leonardo,
What response did you notice from your reef when you was using 'TM Reef-Actif'?

Also, How often did you dose?

I have a small tub of 'Reef-Actif' which I have'nt used yet and was wondering what your experiences are.

Baros; I noticed lighter, but deep fluorescent colors in my corals, that I couldn't get with only VSV. Besides that polyp extension and water clarity increased.
An example of the colors I achieved with Reef-Actif. The colors darkened and dulled a bit after I stopped with it.

Awesome colors on those SPS! What else did you dose with the TM-Reef actif? Did you dose it along with the vsv or alone?

Thanks. I never achieved those colors again... I think because I put a SSB in and stopped dosing Reef-Actif.

I used Reef-Actif in combination with VSV and Prodibio Biodigest (bacteria).

Thanks for the reply,
What are you currently using? Still doing the VSV?

How much Sugar do you dose? teaspoon per gallon?

Thanks for the feedback Leonardo, much appreciated.

I don't know whether you've seen these already Leonardo, here are some recent photos of Mr Hiroyuki Yamada's 'Rainbow Lagoon' which might give a few ideas to think about for the new reef your planning.

Thanks Mafia, it is one of my favorite corals and it still coloring up better every week! :)

You're welcome Reefer08: This is my dosing schedule right now:

Prodibio every two weeks 1 ampule
0,2 gram Table sugar/day
1 ml Vodka/day
4 ml Vinegar/day

I'm almost sure I will also start adding Reef-Actif in my next project again.
I'm increasing the Vinegar dosing right now because I want to see what effect it will have on the colors.

Baros, I know the Rainbow Lagoon II website for a long time, it is in my bookmark pages :) I didn't know this blog so I would like to thank you for the link. These pictures are much more up to date :)
Definitely an inspiration for my previous and future builds.

Hi Leonardo, I have been following your thread and am quite jealous of your corals!
I just wanted to ask you if you still have your Cardinals. If so how are they doing? Do they actually school??

Mike, I still have the Cardinals :) They are over three years old now and doing great. They have always stayed in a compact school. I highly recommend them if you are searching for small schooling fish.

aquastatus; I know, this hobby isn't for free! ;)

Leonardo, Getting close to January so I'm getting geared up for your new build. I think like someone posted before, the crowds are gathering to see what's up your sleeve next.

Some data for the new salt (of course testkits can't give really accurate parameters):

pH right after mixing:

Tropic Marin: 8.6
Cal. Probe: 8.64

One day after mixing with turbulent flow and preheated RO water (25 C):

pH
Tropic Marin: 8.4
Cal. Probe 8.45

KH
Tropic Marin: 8
Salifert: 7.4

Calcium
Tropic Marin: 430
Salifert: 420

Magnesium
Tropic Marin: 1300
Salifert: 1350

After all some decent results, although the alkalinity is a bit low. Rather have it at about 9

From now on I will do 10% weekly water changes and see if I can determine any differences in corals etc.

Leonardo

Those are nice numbers Leonardo. I just picked up some D&D for my salt mixture. I might need to keep an eye out in the future.
